The penalty was for stupidity. Folks executed by firing squads are at least given a tribunal and a blindfold, but her death was due to her participation in an ongoing violent riot. She took the lead as part of a gang who were breaking past the last barricade to a hallway that had unsecured doors into the House Chamber. I don't know if she realized there was an armed guard on the other side of the barricade but somebody yell out "Gun" before she tried to climb through. Obviously a justified shot to blunt the tip of the spear, and it did. Had it not been taken, the position would have been overrun. Anyone stupid enough to try and climb through there would have been shot.

Your problem is you think the US justice system is fair and just. It is not.
