Shohei Ohtani is the Best BB Player Ever

You sound like someone who just does not want to like Ohtani. The only thing his career lacks is a few more years of performance similar to what he has done in his 8 years so far. GOAT discussion aside, there has NEVER been a player in MLB history with his combination of power, speed and pitching ability. If you have one, name him.
thats what i told him....he just doesnt like the guy....

Babe Ruth

Otahni is big. But his WS pitching looked more like a #3 starter on a 100 loss Twins team than a Randy Johnson. Nothing to write home about? Whats all the fuss? Disclaimer: first time I've seen him pitch.

You sound like someone who wants to like him, and ignores the blatant stats that show he is nowhere near GOAT in MLB. The guy hits home runs & steals bases, but he doesn't hit HRs at the rate that Babe Ruth did, and he doesn't steal bases like Ricky Henderson, Lou Brock, Billy Hamilton, Ty Cobb.

His career batting average is .2815. That puts him at # 622 on the all time list - 621 guys with higher averages than him. Dozens of these guys who are higher than Ohtani on the batting average list, are names you probably never even heard of.

How about >>
George Stone - .3008
Paul Hines - .3020
Dale Mitchell - .3122
Rip Radcliff - .3110
Bake McBride - .2992
Magglio Ordonez - .3090

So these guys didn't NEED to steal bases. They got extra base hits (lots of doubles-they were already on 2nd base)

For that last time WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE GOAT as I've stated several times. Ohtani doesn't have enough years to be the GOAT yet. He IS the most physically gifted MLB player of all time as he has already proven.

HA. Who needs speed, when you have 506 doubles, 136 triples, and 714 home runs ? (in only 8299 at bats)......Speed is for singles hitters.
Did any of your superstars from yesteryear ever have a season EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO THIS? Let me answer for you NO:

310 batting average, 54 home runs, 130 RBIs, 59 stolen bases, 134 runs scored and 197 hits - all career-highs

CASE CLOSED.

I see nothing to say that he is the most physically gifted of any time period.

And if he's so "gifted" why (when it counts the most in the World Series) did the Blue Jays clobber him, while he was pitching. >>
In 2 games, he was 0 and 1. Had a ghastly 7.56 ERA (allowed 7.1 earned runs in 8.1 innings) Allowed 14 jays to reach base on 11 hits & 3 walks. Awful.

His hitting was the best of all the Dodgers hitters, but nothing very spectacular.
He hit .333 with 3 HRs. Good, but pale next to Reggie Jackson in 1977 (.450 with 5 home runs)

Mickey Mantle 1956 - 353 batting avg, 52 home runs, 130 RBIs, 132 runs scored, and these were NOT CAREER HIGHS
Career highs were .365 batting avg, 54 Home Runs,130 RBIs, 132 Runs scored (twice),

PS - Ohtani got his 54 HRs on 636 at bats
Mantle got his 54 HRs on 514 at bats

Wanna try Lou Gehrig 1927 ?
.373 batting average, 47 HRs, 175 RBIs, 149 runs scored, 218 hits. These are not career highs.
Gehrig holds the all-time American League single season RBI record of 184 RBIs. Still a record after 94 years.
Had 159 RBIs or more 5 times.

ruth lead the league in runs 8x....and scored over 160 runs twice .....you have to have speed to do that...even in his time....
He also racked up 536 doubles & 136 triples. Speed needed for that too. The most triples Ohtani had in 1 season was 9.
Ruth topped that 4 times with > 11.....12.....13.....16.

I could name many current players, but you would now their names. I was listing names you wouldn't know.

We can't leave out Babe Ruth, (1927)
.356 batting average, 60 Home Runs, 164 RBIs, 158 runs scores, and all on only 540 at bats.
Ohtani's top RBI season was 130. Ruth - 171. Topped 130 RBIs 9 times.
Ohtani's top 1 season batting average was .310. Ruth .393. Ruth topped .310 fifteen times.

ruth also played in a time with pitchers throwing 85 mph too....and 2 of those triple totals were in the dead ball era....you shouldnt be using any numbers before 1920....so Ruth only hit 106 triples and 424 doubles in the so called live ball era......ruths first 5 years since 1920 he had 235 HR's.... ohtani in his first 5 years when he started playing full time in 2021 was 233.....not much of a difference.....

In the dead ball era, it was harder to hit a home run. Ball didn't go as far. Any way you shake it, or spin it, Ohtani doesnt come close to Ruth.

and I dont buy thus 85 mph notion. How the hell does anybody arrive at that ?
Ruth played in the same ers as Walter Johnson, known for his fastball in the 90s.
