Shohei Ohtani is the Best BB Player Ever

In the dead ball era, it was harder to hit a home run. Ball didn't go as far. Any way you shake it, or spin it, Ohtani doesnt come close to Ruth.

and I dont buy thus 85 mph notion. How the hell does anybody arrive at that ?
Ruth played in the same ers as Walter Johnson, known for his fastball in the 90s.
i will believe people who study the game over you...and they say walter was one of the rare guys throwing that fast in the mid nineties...most of the other pitchers were mid to high 80's...if you notice pitchers are getting pretty big now.....you never saw 6'4 pitchers in those days now they are 6'6.....in the 1800's very few players were over 6'0.... in the deadball era you started seen many guys 6'0 to 6'2...

Anything to prop up the new young players, huh ?
The title of this thread rates in the top 10 of most absurd titles of all time.

its called getting better....i bet if nolan ryan went back to 1925 and pitched to ruth he would strike him out almost every time....ruth would not be able to get that heavy bat around fast enough....

You can think or bet anything you like. I doubt many people woud agree with you . 😐

I hate the Dodgers being a Phillies fan, but I gotta admit Ohtani is the best player ever. From a land of pretty short people but intelligent people, this guy is a giant to rival Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and Willie Mays.

Not including the dopers of course.
He is the greatest for sure. You are seeing an in shape babe Ruth. How many rings did babe have?

7....and in ruths prime he was in decent shape.....6/2 216...
I don’t want to be like Lebron fans who don’t know who jordan was. Damn. 7? Really? Ohtani has some work to do then still.

Is there anything Ohtani can do for you to say you’d pick him over babe? Prime for prime.

ruth came from a time when the harder ball just came out, he was a transition player who went from dead ball to a much livelier and faster ball when hit, those guys had to adjust to that..........until the later twenties he was basically the only power hitter everyone else was still doing hit and run....the pitchers in his day were doing high 80's pitching speed .....i was reading were someone asked if ruth would have hit say nolan ryan throwing in the high 90's....they said ruth would have struck out a lot because he wouldnt be able to get the bat around fast enough.....so he would have to adjust and get a lighter bat....one guy said if you put 1970's ryan back in the 20's he would have had 15 no hitters....and a lot of strike outs....

I’ll settle for putting Ruth and Ohtani on the Mount Rushmore by themselves?

Pete rose greatest hitter though right?

his numbers speaks for themselves....what is your definition of greatest hitter?...
Getting hits. Although I was muscular I was short and didn’t do well trying to hit home runs. Usually they caught the ball at the warning track. So I was like Pete. Just got on base. And I stole bases. I was fast. Left handed too so perfect right fielder.

I forget was being left handed batter an advantage? I believe it is. For most right handed pitchers

yea rose got hits....i think the best batsman or hitter though in the last 50 years has been Tony Gwynne....8 batting titles is hard to beat...

i bet you would lose that bet....ryan would overwhelm ruth and the other players in that era.....,why dont you prove me wrong?...
You think there were no fastballers in the 1920's & 30s ? How about Satchel Paige ? He pitched in the 20s, 30s 40s & 50s.

"He was the toughest pitcher I ever faced." (Joe Dimaggio)

i never said there wasnt....there wasnt that many who did though.....putting ryan in that time like he was in his day,he would have dominated until those guys caught up....and DiMaggio only faced Page once in an exhibition game...in real play he said bob feller was tough....you notice they were both pretty fast...Ryan would have ate up the 20's....

Ruth would have ate up the 20s too. The 2020s, that is.

The average of 85 mph for the old school "fastball' was determined with frame by frame analysis of film from many different pitchers of the Babe Ruth era. And just FYI the "deadball" era ended in 1920 when baseball cores were made "livelier". These are documented facts. Feel free to ignore them or look them up yourself.

he thinks pitchers of the 20's were throwing just as fast as the guys today.....they didnt have many guys over 6'2 in the 20's....now we got many pitchers who are 6'6....

Yep. Same thing comparing old era golfers to todays pros. They are almost all over 6 feet, ripped and their swing speeds 20 percent faster than the old guys.
