My experiences tell me that Mike is pretty much dead on here.
Black Americans are the most color-conscious people on the planet.
They demonstrate their obsession with color at nearly every opportunity.
It's not always offensive or even awkward and sometimes just clowning around.
But "race/color" will nearly always work its way into a discussion, story or joke, etc-etc.
On the flip side; Whites and Asians rarely demonstrate any signs of obsession with race.

Every generation, from the Boomers on, have been aware of the warts of American history.

What revisionists of the 80's and 90's have been wanting to do though? Is to take the warts and sins of the past, and somehow make those the reasons for the weaknesses of out-groups. It is crap, there has never been a direct proven link.

I will admit, there is definitely something to be said about social implicit bias. . . but that can be dealt with by bias training, and has nothing to do with sins of the past. And it is scientifically proven, through study of in-group/out-group interaction, that ALL groups are prone to this phenomenon. It is not just a function of one ethnic group. It occurs with all groups. All races, religions, interest groups, age groups, sexes, genders, etc. You get the idea. So creating inter-sectional privledge of one group over another, is a venomous strategy of a political politicization for a particular partisan POV allied with academia.

i.e. Divide and rule by the political, culture, economic and social elites. It will only end up being an unmitigated disaster, like it always has been.
