'Serious moment': Reactions pour in from Congress after Trump strikes Iran

Here are my thoughts:
I'm not in favor of regime change actions because they almost always backfire. It there's any regime on Earth that belongs on the ash heap of history, it's this fascist Islamic goon squad and hopefully it will disappear into the ooze and be replaced by a nominally democratic group that helps restore Iran to the internationally respected country it used to be.
But I am nervous about this approach.
OTOH, Iran must never be allowed to develop atomic weapons because it could literally be the end of Earth as we know it. Imagine NYC or L.A. disappearing in a mushroom cloud and what that would lead to ...
I'll pray for our soldiers/airmen/sailors/Marines and for our President to show wisdom in this very difficult situation.
We always think other countries are predictable. Atomic weapons are outdated and messy. If I was a world leader I would develop a super virus, just clone in the bad stuff of Ebola into a common cold vector. No one would touch my country for fear that it gets released. I don't think this war is really about atomic weapons, I think this "war" is about resetting the position of America on the world stage. America lost a lot of respect from our adversaries, especially after Afghanistan. If America can bring Iran down in days, China and Russia will have to rethink their geopolitical positions anew.

Yeah, I think your points are salient. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out ...

In the wake of the "massive" strikes on Iran by the U.S. and Israel Saturday, members of Congress have begun weighing in -- with Democrats demanding answers -- and some calling for lawmakers to return to Washington to vote on resolutions that would check President Donald Trump's power to wage war.

Republicans have so far praised President Donald Trump's decision to undertake "massive combat operations" against Iran, with an eye towards liberating the Iranian people.

Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia is calling on the Senate to return to Washington immediately to vote on a war powers resolution to check the president's authority to wage war with Iran.

"Has President Trump learned nothing from decades of U.S. meddling in Iran and forever wars in the Middle East?" Kaine said in a statement.

"These strikes are a colossal mistake, and I pray they do not cost our sons and daughters in uniform and at embassies throughout the region their lives," he added.

"The Senate should immediately return to session and vote on my War Powers Resolution to block the use of U.S. forces in hostilities against Iran. Every single Senator needs to go on the record about this dangerous, unnecessary, and idiotic action," he said.

Huh, well that's typical....Congress relinquished their power to the executive so they would not have to do anything. Now since POTUS did something with the power they relinquished they want to whine about it.
Democrats side with our enemies......what else is new.

And this will be used in the midterms as well. Siding with Iran will lose a few more seats. I think Trump needs to keep setting traps to show the country just how un-American the dumocrap party is. Now the dumocraps will vote for a greasy shit sandwich served in a dirty ash tray if it has a (D) next to it, but the independents won't.

It’s not surprising the party that stands for illegals and sits when asked to defend US citizens would also choose a Muslim terrorist country over our interests.

Gotta' admit the idea of NYC and LA in a mushroom cloud doesn't bother me as much as say nukes falling on Montana or Wyoming and destroying all that natural beauty. We can live without two corrupt deep blue cities filled with neo-leftists.

Iran holds elections.

Well, besides the fact Iran hasn't developed an ICBM that can hit North America, only one country has ever used atomic bombs on people.

Against a nation that had already been effectively defeated and was desperately seeking peace.

I'll pray for our soldiers/airmen/sailors/Marines and for our President to show wisdom in this very difficult situation.
A difficult situation he created!!! Iran was willing to concede most of the major points.

(I know. I had the same thought.) :laughing0301:

Iran holds elections.
Bullshit.
Well, besides the fact Iran hasn't developed an ICBM that can hit North America, only one country has ever used atomic bombs on people.
Oh. So a nuke can only be delivered via an ICBM?
How dumb are you?
Against a nation that had already been effectively defeated and was desperately seeking peace.
If you're talking about Japan, you're a ******* liar. They were NOT seeking peace, liar.
A difficult situation he created!!! Iran was willing to concede most of the major points.
Iran was playing a stalling game.
Time ran out.
People like you amaze me. You're completely removed from reality. You live in a world of lies.

Iran never did anything bad to us.

We, on the other hand, have been abusing them for 50 years since they overthrew that prick, the Shah.
OMG.
They have sponsored terrorism all over the world.
Your ignorance is mind-boggling.
You are completely in the bag for our enemies.

What a stupid ******* idea.

Starting a war with a munitions shortage?

I mean, seriously?
Why do we have a munitions shortage ? Could it be all the shit Biden's handlers sent to the Ukraine. Maybe all the equipment that was left in Afghanistan ?

What we see here are "Republicans" who can't even define the word "conservative" cheering this as if it is America's duty to off every foreign bad guy...

and the excuses are identical to W's "regime change" call in Iraq...

The Zionist Fascist Pro Israel Christian has wrecked the GOP and America pursuing this shit.... and can't stop voting for Pro Israel RINOs who sell us out every time they get a chance to...

They have sponsored terrorism all over the world.

These are the dubious Faux News "talking points" to those who lack the IQ over 5 necessary to notice 911 was a complete fraud/hate hoax.

The reality in Afghan was that Iran was trying to off Taliban by arming and funding The Northern Alliance, which is why W and bibi sided with Taliban....

If you're talking about Japan, you're a ******* liar. They were NOT seeking peace, liar.

Learn to read a history book.

Oh. So a nuke can only be delivered via an ICBM?
How dumb are you?

The only practical way, um, yeah. Iran also doesn't have intercontinental bombers or submarines.

Iran was playing a stalling game.
Time ran out.
People like you amaze me. You're completely removed from reality. You live in a world of lies.

Iran was willing to give up enriching Uranium (even though it is allowed to do so under the NPT).

All over the world, really?

Seems like they are doing what we are doing, finding factions they like and supporting them.

Iran isn't our enemy. They're Israel's enemy, but we need to stop mistaking the interests of the Zionist Entity for our interests.

I remember when Obama attacked Libya, and under the War Powers Act it required Obama to get consent from Congress after being at war for so long. But once that time expired, Obama still refused to get the consent of Congress saying, it was not really a war.

But at that time, Obama was fighting the cool PC war where Europe basically begged him to take out Gaddafi for them.

It's all a part of earning that Obama Nobel Peace prize I reckon.

With the Iranian bombings, however, Trump goes it alone as his own government and those in the international community will seek to use it to destroy him.
Obama did not attack Libya. Euope id not beg America to tae out Gaddafi. Go read the UN resolution that authorized the use of force in Libya instea ofcepeating ight wing junk. Furthermore, this whataboutism is another Red herring. Obama is the one who had Iran agreeing to stop making nukes-the JCPOA that Trump destroyed.

We have committed acts of terror all over the world.
