Separate Malaysian Airline Crashes Ukraine

I doubt our satellites can pick up anything as small as a missile launch in the Ukraine

If only we had the capability to detect missile launches and the technology to view the launch site.

Heat plumes from missile launches are very unique and we have the capability to spot them. Whether or not we maintain worldwide coverage with this capability is beyond what I know. We may have proof of something but may hold it close to our vest to prevent the other side from knowing the details of our capability. I'm sure we'll know much more by this time tomorrow.

Yeah, why would we ever direct missile launch capability at Russia and the Ukraine?

I've just read this.
Both sides are claiming a "Manuel" (I know nothing), but there's a fair chance one side or the other did it.
A couple of Ukrainian military aircraft were brought down in the region, now this MAS flight.
There are going to be two theories:
Ukrainian government forces did it in order to garner support and make the rebels look bad.
The rebels/Russians did it, and are bad.

Take your pick.

Only one thing is sure here, the passengers and crew are victims of politics most of them probably didn't know/care about.

Separatists don't have the military hardware to pull this off. Only the Russian and Ukrainian Militaries do.

In situations like this, it is prudent to ask, "cui bono, who benefits?".

Russia has no reason to target civilian aircraft, and no benefits would come from such an attack. Where as an event like this benefits the Ukrainian Government greatly, they may now get the NATO/UN intervention they have wanted for months to finally quell the separatists in the East and bring Donetsk and Luhansk under their control.

It was immediately determined that the plane was hit by a missile. It's 18 years to the day since flight 800 blew up over Long Island NY and the Clinton administration spent six month trying to concoct a story about a short circuit when there were witnesses who saw a missile trail. Anyway it seems that there were about 23 Americans aboard and so far the State Dept is silent until Kerry can come up with political spin.

If it was shot down by a Russian missile, the outrage around the world will change the very dynamics of the war in Ukraine.

This is outrageous.

Both Ukraine and Russia have a dog in this race. Either could have done it, both have an interest in the blame landing on the other.

Russia has no reason to target civilian aircraft,.

Unless they did shoot it down, intending to claim Ukraine did it.
They have a potential reason.

We won't know a thing, possibly ever, because Ukraine commonly uses Russian equipment so, even if missile parts are found, we still won't know who it belonged to.

This whole thing is fucking evil and the comments we see on here are going to be almost as bad.

BREAKING: Putin says airplane disaster would not have happened if Kiev had not renewed military operation against rebels in east Ukraine

BREAKING: Russia's Putin says Kiev bears responsibility for crash of passenger plane because it was brought down in Ukraine: RIA

Ukraine accused "terrorists" - militants fighting to unite eastern Ukraine with Russia - of shooting down the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 with a heavy, Soviet-era SA-11 ground-to-air missile as it flew from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

And there we have it.

These fuckers can't wait to blame everyone else, totally ignoring everything, especially lack of actual facts, to gain political support.
Bastards.

After the bastards have finished with lies and the blame game, will this woman still be sad?

We don't need all the shit, we need an international team, all without political interest in the result, on the ground.

Never going to happen.

Ukraine claims victory in rebel stronghold of Slovyansk - World - CBC News

Oops.

Ukrainian government forces manoeuvre Buk anti-aircraft missile launchers as they are transported northwest from Slovyansk, eastern Ukraine. The government said its troops wrested back Slovyansk from rebels on Saturday. (Dmitry Lovetsky/Associated Press)

One has to ask, why are Ukrainian troops using a SAM system, when the rebels have no aircraft?
They may fear attacks from Russian aircraft, but that seems unlikely.
