what did you expect from the do-nothing Congress?
But Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy said he was still hopeful for a compromise with the GOP.

You mean the do nothing Republicans who are useless and the do nothing moderate Democrats who are too spineless to take a stand.
How come THOUSANDS of existing Gun control laws are not enough for you?
If there were thousands of gun control laws, there would hardly be any shootings. Because almost no one would be able to own a gun.

Yet, mass shootings still happen frequently. Why? Well, when you have a gun proliferation problem with almost no checks, no national registration
database, and a free flow of guns from gun friendly states into urban areas (which are supposed to be gun free zones), you get chaos.
This has been documented multiple times. All you have to do is search.
Actually. There are thousands of laws.
Let’s take a favorite. Columbine. Here is the list of laws violated before the first shot was fired.
Conspiracy. They had to plan the action. Planning a criminal action with at least one other person is Conspiracy to commit that crime. In this case. Murder.
Illegal possession of firearms. The shooters were under 18. By law people under 18 are prohibited from owning or possessing firearms except in very specific circumstances. An example a youth at a gun range with their parent or guardian or under the supervision of a designated adult instructor.
Possession of a firearm on school property. This is another felony. It is illegal for even concealed carry permit holders to enter school properties. Police are the only exception.
We haven’t fired a shot yet in the timeline. Yet we have three felonies and none has prevented the crime.
Laws are used after the event to prosecute the offender. Your car does not shut down if you exceed the speed limit or make an illegal U turn. The laws don’t prevent you from exceeding the speed limit. If you are caught they are used to punish the behavior.
But we are talking about guns. There are hundreds. Thousands of Federal Laws. Describing what a firearm is. How it can be transported. Who can legally own them. How it can be shipped. Who is authorized to receive a shipment. The list goes on and on.
As an example. Let’s say you want to buy an AR-15 over the internet. You order the rifle. You pay for it. And it is shipped out. But it is against the law for you to receive the rifle. By law it must be received by a Federal Firearms Licensed Dealer. If the person shipping the rifle doesn’t send it to one, and he must have confirmation that the person is a FFL dealer, they committed a crime.
Now it is yours. You have purchased it. You go down and it is handed to you no questions asked right? Wrong. By law. Again. The transfer must be checked by the background check system. You have to fill out the transfer form and pass the check. If you are a concealed carry permit holder it is legal in Georgia to use that as a background check.
This is true for any weapon that fires a cartridge. The only exception is black powder firearms that for not use cartridges. In other words muzzle loaders or cap and ball pistols.
So you can have a Kentucky Rifle shipped to your home direct. Or a weapon that would be at home reenacting the civil war battle of your choice.
Laws and regulations are practically endless. And often the experts who enforce the laws are in disagreement over what law applies when.
