In a Republic, actually
“The Commission's thorough and historically informed work has put the Department on a path to meet Congressional intent – and to remove from U.S. military facilities all names, symbols, displays, monuments, and paraphernalia that honor or commemorate the Confederacy. The Commission has chosen names that echo with honor, patriotism, and history - names that will inspire generations of Service members to defend our democracy and our Constitution.”

Very good.

If you look at the big picture, none of this really amounts to a fucking hill of beans.

What does matter, is that whatever else, there will never, ever be a Fort Biden or a Biden Air Force Base. :laughing0301:

That will certainly increase the number of enlistments and create unity in our country. (sarcasm implied)

WHAT AN IDIOTIC MOVE... They were all AMERICANS who served. This is an attempt to rewrite history. A bunch of classless ass clowns..

If only those lazy doo nuffin Conservatives had got up off there arses back in the 1800's and fought like men there would be a Confederate President today.

Oh well....some things you can ALWAYS count on. :laughing0301:

Perhaps we can all thank that stalwart former Democrat, Ku Klux Klan and former President Woodrow Wilson for naming those "Forts", along with the fact that he segregated our military and Federal Civil Service employment system.

Cool. Why Braxton Bragg ever had a military base named after him has never made sense, one can surmise there was a dearth of Confederate talent from the state of North Carolina during the Civil War, so they had to settle on a terrible general who was ultimately relieved of command.
It was the 1920s – the height of Jim Crow, black codes, and segregation.

As was the case with statues and monuments named for treasonous war criminals from the South, so too were military installations – to reaffirm and establish the institution of racism.

No question, this was the middle finger from the south towards equality, not that there was much of a movement for that 100 years ago.

Better late than never.

Actually, every rebel was exonerated of Treason- mostly by President Johnson during the 1860's.

You left out the most important fact that it was former President Woodrow Wilson Democrat and Ku Klux Klan enthusiast that signed off on the names and segregated our military and civil service employment.

This is just a political move on the part of Sleepy Joe, BTW. He sees black voters slipping away, and making this announcement right before the midterms is designed to keep them on the Democrat Plantation.

He isn't fooling anyone.

BTW, is Biden going to remove the Confederate statues and memorials from the Gettysburg facility?

I served at Fort Lee, VA, for a little over a year during Vietnam. Fort Lee was named after Confederate General Robert E. Lee, in 1917(!).

I seriously don't get it.

The Confederates were given amnesty after the Civil War, but honoring them in this way is totally inappropriate. It would be like a Roman Catholic university being named after Martin Luther.

While Biden is a Jag-Off, this is a right move.

I think I agree....we should not honor democrat party soldiers who fought to keep black humans as slaves to the members of the democrat party....
