Granted, he could not defend himself, but we have all the evidence we need now so his ability to defend himself means nothing. There were Trump hating Republicans on the committee after all, making it totally legit.

The secret service first responsibility is the well being of the former president. A state indictment does not mean Trump is guilty of anything.

An indictment doesn't equate to guilty .. period. It's a formal charge against an individual that alleges a crime, and the prosecution must provide evidence of the charges.

Impeachment doesn't imply guilt .. it is a formal charge against an elected official about a wrong doing, and a vote is cast to determine its success. It's not much different than an indictment, where charges are formalized and it doesn't mean one is guilty.
