The pilot, who had ejected before the aircraft went down, was rescued by U.S. forces and is alive and receiving medical attention. The search and rescue operation was conducted with the assistance of Israel, which helped halt Iranian air strikes in the area. The operation involved a complex series of maneuvers and was marked by the use of bombs and weapons fire to keep Iranian troops away from the rescue site. The rescued pilot was flown to Kuwait for treatment of his injuries.

An Israeli source reported that two commando units of the country, known as 'Shaldag' and 'Matkal', played a role in the operation to rescue an American pilot in Iran.
This source said on Sunday, April 5, 2026, that the operation lasted about 36 hours, during which an American helicopter was fired upon by Islamic Republic forces but ultimately managed to return safely to base.
Fox News also reported that Israel participated in the search and rescue operation of the American pilot and provided 'information' to Washington.
According to this report, Israel also played a role in the rescue of the American pilot by halting the Islamic Republic's air attacks on the operational area.
