The Seattle City Council voted Tuesday to override Mayor Jenny Durkan’s vetoes of council bills meant to start shrinking the police force and scaling up community solutions this year. Council members chose to stick with the 2020 budget bills instead of a substitute proposal that the mayor had said she could accept.
.
.
Under the substitute proposal disclosed Monday, there would have been no layoffs this year; the police commanders would have kept their wages; the Navigation Team would have remained intact; community-based public safety programs would have received $2.5, rather than $14 million; and the research project would have received $1 million this year, rather than $3 million.

The budget bills passed by the council and vetoed by Durkan last month included provisions meant to reduce the police force by up to 100 officers through layoffs and attrition; cut the wages of police commanders; dismantle a city Navigation Team that clears certain homeless encampments; borrow $14 million to fund community-based public-safety programs; and use $3 million in emergency reserves to fund a community-led public-safety research project.

So, they're not going to clear certain homeless encampments, probably the ones that aren't near where the council members live. According to ex-police chief Best, the SPD was already under-staffed, so cutting more officers isn't going to help meet the need for public safety and security. And I seriously doubt that community-based public safety programs are going to make a difference, certainly not in the immediate future. Violence and crime are about to go up big time in Seattle IMHO. So are local taxes.

All of a sudden the summer of love doesn't look too good. As the idiots snivel among themselves the criminal terrorists are having it their way and the residents hide in their houses just like every conservative alive predicted. But this won't be the first time stupid Democrats did something to make life miserable. In fact, they're getting pretty good at it. Viva Trump. MAGA

The left wingers here should really tell us again that the democrats are not the party of crime and chaos..........I need a good laugh today....

Every LEO in Seattle should quit. Lets see what the City Council does when they have no cops to throw under the bus. Lets see if they want to take calls and put their lives on the line.

I'm sure those highly trained men and women who are LEO's can get hired in another city. A city run by Reps.

Newark, NJ. found a way to do the community improvements without defunding the cops. And it is under a program that Obama did with an EO in 2016. It's still on the books but Rump refuses to use it. Rump would rather have the riots than the peace. Yah, I know, you Party of the Rumper Cult Members won't believe this but facts don't get in the way or your hate and fear tactics.

Rump needs to be sent to NY and let them deal with him. Afterall, they helped to create the problem.

And the police they have left are going to driver around all day ignoring crime and criminals that don't actually shoot at the officers. What's the old saying. "never do an enemy a small injury"? Well that's what the Seattle government did to it's cops and they will return the favor in spades.

Seattle is toast, the exodus has already begun. Those that can are moving out. Businesses are already exploring alternative locations.

That's easy. They believe in total top down control, with power going all the way to the president.

There is a program that completely changed Newark NJ from a Riot and Looting Haven to one where the Citizens do most of the policing themselves.

DOJ-Newark Frequently Asked Questions

This is a program that Obama set a program up in early 2016 so the DOJ helps the cities without taking over and breaking their banks. Newark had Peaceful Protest and are continuing to have them. But only one case of damage. One person cut a Cop Car's tire and the crowd ran them off yelling for the to leave, they weren't from there and didn't belong. Even a cops worst nightmare, the Domestic Dispute, is handled by a Community Representative. On many calls to the Police, the Police calls the Civilian Council and they handle it. It wasn't just the Cops that pay for the Community Council, they took 2% from all of the Public Safety Budget and they have full time Community Action People who live in the neighborhoods. One Cop was trying to detain a person and that person overpowered the Cop. The community (citizens) interceded and beat the holy crap out of that individual and assisted the Cop.

The tools are there for Rump and Barr but they would rather keep feeding the fires when they could be These people getting killed and the property being destroyed are on Rump and Barr's hands.

Why are you blaming a Federal President for the issues of local governments?

Because, as I have stated, the tools for Barr are in place to stop this cold like it was done in Newark. And yes, it took a Lawsuit to force Newark to do it done by the ACLU but it was done. And it worked. Not overnight but it worked.

What is the “consent decree”?

The “consent decree” is a formal agreement—or contract—between the City of Newark and the Department of Justice to make specific reforms to the NPD. Implementation of the reforms in this contract will be overseen by federal monitors agreed to by the DOJ and Newark. The consent decree is enforced by a federal judge in New Jersey.

But it was done by an EO by Obama and that just can't be a good thing.

Four factors which - when combined - may trigger a Rump Reelection...

1. Dem calls - and actions - to defund the police
2. Dem failures to routinely and fully prosecute rioters and looters
3. Dem -fostered Cancel-Culture
4. Sleepy Old Uncle Joe

...which is all a damned shame, because another four years of an Orange Baboon-God without limits on his power may destroy the Republic.

The election is the Dems to lose and - God forbid - I fear that they are well along the road to doing just that.

What a tragedy...

No... it's a tragedy for The People and their Republic and its Constitution... someday, you will probably understand.

BTW... I don't trust the Dems any further than I can throw 'em, either... I even like much of the Rump agenda...

With him, unfortunately, in my eyes, it's largely a matter of Right Message,

The Republic and Constitution are doing fine. The Democrat party? Well, they're allowing riots, looting, assaults, cutting back on law enforcement, people are leaving their cities and states, and to top it all off AOC is demanding Cuomo and the NYC mayor to raise taxes, and their presidential candidate has dementia.
