Russia was an under-industrialized, agrarian society, full of illiterate peasants before the socialist Bolshevic revolution. It was socialism that turned Russia into the second largest economy in the world, and a superpower rivaling the United States. The USSR accomplished all of that, despite the American empire and its allies trying to destroy it from the very beginning. The US with 14 other nations invaded Russia after WW1, trying to stop the socialist revolution and they failed. Less than 20 years later, Russia became an industrial juggernaut, free of the economic depression that hit the US and other Western countries, in the late 1920s and 30s. It was an industrial power, in the mid 1930s, providing its citizens with a much higher standard of living than what they had before socialism. Don't you realize that?

They were then invaded by 4 million Germans, the most powerful military in the world at the time, and lost nine million soldiers on the battlefield fighting them. Seventeen million Russian civilians lost their lives as a result of WW2, a war that the USSR didn't start. America lost half a million soldiers and hardly any American civilians died from the war. America didn't get invaded by four million Nazis, and lose close to a quarter of its population as the Russians did. In less than 12 years after suffering and fighting in the most catastrophic war ever fought in human history (the largest army in history invaded Russia in 1941), losing much of its infrastructure, it had rebuilt itself by the mid-1950s, into a world superpower rivaling the US, economically, militarily, technologically and otherwise. The Soviets were the first in space. You just poopoo all of that. Everything I just wrote above amounts to nothing but a pile of poop, for you. I just wasted my precious time and energy writing all of the above.

I can go on and provide you with plenty of evidence, as to how socialism is the best economic system and much more robust and effective than capitalism, but I would be wasting my time, trying to convince him:

That socialism is better than capitalism. Waste of time. I know all of the objections and how to effectively respond to all of them. I've heard it all. But I've concluded that it's a waste of my precious time and energy to answer questions that don't come from people with a genuine interest in learning the truth. Unfortunately, most of the questions and objections to socialism and communism stem from pure emotional rancorous ignorance, devoid of any goodwill or genuine interest in pursuing the truth.

Unlike in developing countries, the American working class was once the aristocracy of labor, due to being the primary paying consumer for capitalists. Between the late 1940s and early 1980s, American families could have one breadwinner in the family and pay for their house in cash. My grandfather migrated to the US when he was 48 years old, back in the late 50s, and got a job at Bertram, a yacht manufacturer in Miami, Florida. He was earning enough money with that one blue-collar job, to raise his family, pay for a house in cash, a car..etc. Back then you could work for a company for twenty years and retire with a pension. All of that ended in the 1980s, thanks to Ronald Reagan and his supply-side economics. Trickle-down bullshit economics, gutted the American working-class and our nation's manufacturing base. You're touting about the American "standard of living", that's all just a fantasy. The American dream is now more than ever, just a dream. You only live it when you're asleep in bed.
