Schumer Had a Different View of Government Shutdowns in 2013

"He's the one that has to get people together!"

Yeah, okay Rosie. Trump invalidated your comment right there.

I AM NOT BLAMING OBAMA

I am saying that TRUMP blamed Obama, and now has the temerity to blame Democrats when he finds himself in the same situation that Obama was in.

Don't call people stupid when you can't even understand the very simple point they are making.

That awkward moment when your own words come back to bite you in the ass

“The basic line is: No matter how strongly one feels about an issue, you shouldn’t hold millions of people hostage. That’s what the other side is doing. That’s wrong and we can’t give in to that,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer.

Someone goes into your house, takes your wife and children hostage, and then says ‘Let’s negotiate over the price of your house.’ You know, we could do the same thing on immigration. We believe strongly in immigration reform. We could say, ‘We’re shutting down the government, we’re not gonna raise the debt ceiling, until you pass immigration reform.’ It would be governmental chaos.”

Shocking that a politician would be such a hypocrite.

Liberals have been holding this country back over social issues for decades. Nothing new.

All you have to do is look at California becoming a sanctuary state.

They think their social whims trump Federal law.

Urban terrorists.
At least they think that until the disagreement is gay marriage. Then they become strict stooges of the federal government. Thought experiment:

How would they react if Mississippi were to declare it was going to ignore federal law and refuse to require anyone to join a gay wedding?

you are simple-----but made no point

wrong again In 2013 Trump commented on WHO WOULD BE BLAMED-----he did not say WHO SHOULD BE BLAMED

You are wrong. Trump was talking about far more than that.

"Who is going to take the blame? In the board room here, who's getting fired? Who is going to bear the brunt of the responsibility if indeed there's a shutdown of our government?"

Trump said, "If you say who gets fired, it always has to be the top. Problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top and the president is the leader and he's got to get everybody in a room and he's got to lead."

He clearly is saying the President is responsible.

read it again------where does he state OBAMA SHOULD BE FIRED?
He correctly PREDICTS----Obama would be blamed. He does not say
"I BLAME OBAMA"-----then he says what OBAMA SHOULD BE DOING

Chuck Schumer in 2013: If Dems shut down the government over immigration that would be 'a politics of idiocy' - Hot Air

"This quote so perfectly sums up Democratic hypocrisy on the shutdown that when I first heard it being quoted by House Speaker Paul Ryan I wondered if it was real. But as you’ll see in a moment, it is real. Back in 2013, Sen. Chuck Schumer was giving an interview to Jake Tapper about the government shutdown which lasted for 16 days in October of that year. Tapper asked whether Democrats in the Senate had taken too hard a line with Republicans."

And here Chucky and Nancy are shutting down the government to make illegals a higher priority than American citizens...

Again, say 'adios' to the midterms, snowflakes...

Chuck really did not think this one through at all.

First he allies himself with illegals over Americans.. Then he is left with pulling the military card. Problem there is the military doesn't like him and sees that they are being used as pawns by Chuck. He gains nothing, but risks having to back down to Trump. Set himself up for a lose-lose, way to go Schumer Shutdown.

Well, this is why they are pushing so hard for DACA citizenship IMO. If they get the million+ voters they will do well in the mid-terms, if not, they won't do as well. I would not be surprised that if Trump stated that he would move on DACA but the process to citizenship would not be accepted until AFTER 2020 (or maybe even 2018), that the Democrats would not accept any deal.

I wouldn't even be surprised if after the mid terms IF the GOP somehow picked up more seats, that they wouldn't then be more willing to give in to DACA as they wouldn't have to be concerned until 2020, they'd have two strong years to convince them that socialism is not a good system and try and woo their voters with a strong showing (a they build the wall of course).

This appears on the surface to be completely about the mid terms for the Democrats and a serious concern that they are losing so many more votes, not to mention, wealthy donors in California at a rate much faster than expected. This is just by going by the various articles and suggestions on this site and other places.

The support for the GOP within the black community for instance, isn't just growing, there are others I've seen on Fox and elsewhere running for local government on behalf of the GOP. In short, they are listening and not drinking from the kool-aid. Everyone knows how horribly run some of these major cities have been, even Charles Barkley calls it out.

Liberals. Like moths to the flame once again showing us just how smart they really are . . . .

The Democrats have really painted themselves in a corner. Now they are all in with DACA dreamers not only getting residency but full voting rights by the 2018 elections.

They have also very clearly stated to poor American citizens "You are not important because we have your votes. These people are important because we don't have their votes....yet".

Dreamers were already on the Democrats side, the only risk was not delivering on the promise. That risk seems to be a poor one.

Democrats are not changing their minds on this one way or the other.

Republicans are not changing their minds either.

Only a small percentage to pick up or lose. Way too high of stakes for such a potential small gain. Leave it to Democrats to pick the wrong battle.

Rightfully or wrongfully, true or not, this is how many Americans view this. It's only logical based on the stance they are taking to derail funding the government, when they don't have any deadline on DACA for another two months.

Much of the federal government officially shut down early Saturday morning after Senate Democrats, showing remarkable solidarity in the face of a clear political danger, blocked consideration of a stopgap spending measure to keep the government operating.
