Sure. Right in front of us. That's one of the features of a strongman autocracy. It has been growing for years, but these billionaires saw the opportunity -- a needy con man who is easily manipulated -- and they have run with it.

The relationship between the strongman and the Oligarchs is always tenuous, though. As we see in Russia, where Oligarchs who get a little sideways with the Big Guy often find themselves accidentally falling out of windows.

Way too much money is spent on campaigns. For every dollar they spend on campaigns they should match with a dollar towards the national debt. It would be paid off in no time. And we'd all have saner lives.
