LOL, remember that? Talk about something that sent shivers down your spine. Made sense too. I mean all of the "acid" out there being belched into the sky by mean white American people.

When is the last time we heard about "ACID RAAAAAIN!!!!!"

It went from global cooling in the 70s. To "acid rain" in the 80s. A big giant hole in the ozone in the 90s. To global warming in the 2000s. To climate change now.

Bill Nye wants and the morons on the left wants to put a person like me in jail.

Actually, that is not funny.

They got rid of the the propellants that caused the ozone hole.

And Acid rain is a big bone of contention between between japan and China. But it gets swallowed up in the rest of the air pollution arguments between the two countries.

LOL....the sad thing is the left loons won't grasp it
Leonardo-DiCaprio.jpg

I mean how are we suppose to battle that? Leonardo DiCaprio telling the world leaders all about it.

You can just see a liberal saying this after seeing that......

"DO YOU BELIEVE US NOW!!!!"

The bed wetters blamed our manufacturing industries for acid rain. Once the unions bankrupted nearly every factory in the country or forced them to outsource most people know there isn't any industry.

You can't have the same problem if you've destroyed the source.

Besides, they have global whining now and they can blame that on everything. It's a "crisis" that can't run out of causes until we're all living on collective farms.

Well, global warming was a bit confined to basically one condition. So, in order to deal with that, they use the term "climate change" in order to include every single thing that happens in regards to weather.

Ice storms....climate change
Heat wave.....climate change
Hurricanes....climate change
Tornadoes....climate change
Forest fires...climate change

Yes, all of it is global warming. They are so stupid that they think meteors or asteroids coming close to earth could possibly be due to global warming.

I mean do we have any idea what level of utter stupidity we are dealing with?

I do.

That is why I never use the word "think" in regards to a libturd. They are absolutely incapable of thinking. They believe in things, and parrot that bullshit, but there is no cognitive functioning behind it.

Bill Nye thinks meteorology is the study of meteors, and they call Palin a moron

Bad mental image.....

Funny as hell however....

Actually, that is not funny.

H2SO4 was indeed a real problem with all the sulfur we were putting into the air in the late 70's. It manifested itself in the tropics but could be seen down wind of many large scale plants like Kennocott Copper in Utah. there were whole sections of mountain range that were dead around their smelting facility.

That all changed in 1981 when they placed a scrubbing unit on the smoke stack and began capturing it and then selling it to chemical companies. Today those same mountains are lush with natural foliage and wildlife.

Today all of our power plants and what is left of manufacturing use this scrubber technology which places 99.8% water vapor into the atmosphere. There is no reason to stop using coal or fossil fuels.

The libtard lies are nothing more than hype now. The problem was fixed many years ago. This was one of the last times our EPA actually did what it was intended to do.

From "A History of Acid Rain in the United States", Wikipedia

In 1980, the U.S. Congress passed an Acid Deposition Act.[16] This Act established an 18-year assessment and research program under the direction of the National Acidic Precipitation Assessment Program (NAPAP). NAPAP looked at the entire problem from a scientific perspective. It enlarged a network of monitoring sites to determine how acidic the precipitation actually was, and to determine long-term trends, and established a network for dry deposition. It looked at the effects of acid rain and funded research on the effects of acid precipitation on freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems, historical buildings, monuments, and building materials. It also funded extensive studies on atmospheric processes and potential control programs.

From the start, policy advocates from all sides attempted to influence NAPAP activities to support their particular policy advocacy efforts, or to disparage those of their opponents.[16] For the U.S. Government's scientific enterprise, a significant impact of NAPAP were lessons learned in the assessment process and in environmental research management to a relatively large group of scientists, program managers and the public.[17]

In 1991, DENR provided its first assessment of acid rain in the United States. It reported that 5% of New England Lakes were acidic, with sulfates being the most common problem. They noted that 2% of the lakes could no longer support Brook Trout, and 6% of the lakes were unsuitable for the survival of many species of minnow. Subsequent Reports to Congress have documented chemical changes in soil and freshwater ecosystems, nitrogen saturation, decreases in amounts of nutrients in soil, episodic acidification, regional haze, and damage to historical monuments.

Meanwhile, in 1989, the U.S. Congress passed a series of amendments to the Clean Air Act. Title IV of these amendments established theAcid Rain Program, a cap and trade system designed to control emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. Title IV called for a total reduction of about 10 million tons of SO2 emissions from power plants. It was implemented in two phases. Phase I began in 1995, and limited sulfur dioxide emissions from 110 of the largest power plants to a combined total of 8.7 million tons of sulfur dioxide. One power plant in New England (Merrimack) was in Phase I. Four other plants (Newington, Mount Tom, Brayton Point, and Salem Harbor) were added under other provisions of the program. Phase II began in 2000, and affects most of the power plants in the country.

During the 1990s, research continued. On March 10, 2005, EPA issued the Clean Air Interstate Rule (CAIR). This rule provides states with a solution to the problem of power plant pollution that drifts from one state to another. CAIR will permanently cap emissions of SO2 and NOx in the eastern United States. When fully implemented, CAIR will reduce SO2emissions in 28 eastern states and the District of Columbia by over 70% and NOxemissions by over 60% from 2003 levels.[18]

Overall, the program's cap and trade program has been successful in achieving its goals. Since the 1990s, SO2 emissions have dropped 40%, and according to the Pacific Research Institute, acid rain levels have dropped 65% since 1976.[19][20] Conventional regulation was used in the European Union, which saw a decrease of over 70% in SO2 emissions during the same time period.[21]

In 2007, total SO2 emissions were 8.9 million tons, achieving the program's long-term goal ahead of the 2010 statutory deadline.[22]

In 2007 the EPA estimated that by 2010, the overall costs of complying with the program for businesses and consumers would be $1 billion to $2 billion a year, only one fourth of what was originally predicted.[19] Forbes says:In 2010, by which time the cap and trade system had been augmented by the George W. Bush administration’s Clean Air Interstate Rule, SO2 emissions had fallen to 5.1 million tons.[23]

God are you people STUPID!!!

Acid rain was a serious problem here and in Europe. And, no thanks to idiots like you fellows, we fixed that. And, thanks to you idiots, we are very close to too late to fix the GHG problem.

The Acid Rain Scam
Acid rain became an “issue” in 1980 when Congress passed the Acid Deposition Act. After a ten year study, National Acidic Precipitation Assessment Program reported that there wasn’t much of a problem with acid rain. The first report was rejected and Congress went ahead and amended the Clean Air Act to mandate SO2 and NOx emissions. These emissions have been substantially reduced at a cost of several billion dollars per year. Chump change relative to the potential costs of Kyoto/Copenhagen schemes.

According to the EPA the Acid Rain Program has made significant progress…
Air Quality: Emission reductions achieved under the ARP have led to improvements in air quality with significant benefits to human health.

  • Between 1989-1991 and 2006-2008 average ambient sulfate concentrations have decreased by 38 percent in the Mid-Atlantic, 44 percent in the Midwest, 43 percent in the Northeast, and 28 percent in the Southeast.
Rainwater was not becoming more acidic prior to the initiation of the EPA’s Acid Rain Program in 1990. The pH of rainwater was actually rising (becoming less acidic) prior to the EPA’s efforts to fight acid rain. The really crazy thing is that the pH has been rising more slowly since the EPA started to fight acid rain!

Rain is supposed to be acidic. The pH of rain in a pristine environment, free from pollution (including volcanoes) is normally about 5.6. Most of the lakes which were showcased as acid rain victims were naturally acidic and had been acidic since well before mankind ever burned his first lump of coal.

Rather than being a global problem, anthropogenic acid rain was a localized problem in parts of Northern Europe which was relatively easily fixed.

The costs of reducing SO2 and NOx emissions haven’t been that awful… And the reductions did lead to some beneficial incremental environmental effects… But… No acid rain crisis ever existed.
