The Trump administration has been deliberating for months about what to do about a stunning intelligence assessment.





American intelligence officials have concluded that a Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing coalition forces in Afghanistan — including targeting American troops — amid the peace talks to end the long-running war there, according to officials briefed on the matter.

The United States concluded months ago that the Russian unit, which has been linked to assassination attempts and other covert operations in Europe intended to destabilize the West or take revenge on turncoats, had covertly offered rewards for successful attacks last year.




An operation to incentivize the killing of American and other NATO troops would be a significant and provocative escalation of what American and Afghan officials have said is Russian support for the Taliban, and it would be the first time the Russian spy unit was known to have orchestrated attacks on Western troops.

Any involvement with the Taliban that resulted in the deaths of American troops would also be a huge escalation of Russian so-called hybrid war against the United States, a strategy of destabilizing adversaries through a combination of such tactics as cyberattacks, the spread of fake news and covert and deniable military operations.
According to this report, a series of response options was developed in March, but to date no action has been authorized by the White House. It will be interesting to see how this situation is handled by the Pompeo and the putin´s cuckold Trump.

Afghanistan has not been conquered since the Persian Empire. Everyone who invaded it withdraws with their tails between their legs. The British learned this in the 1800’s. The Russians learned it then and a century later. We are refusing to learn it today.

We supplied the terrorists in the 1980’s. We supplied the terrorists in 2010. We supplied them for years out of our tax dollars and cash from Saudi. We and the Russians keep thinking we can control the region. We can’t.

If you want to know why troops are dying the answer is arrogance. If we pulled out today the Russians would move in and start being attacked as the enemy. Everyone who goes in thinks that this time it will be different. This time we will win. We have technology and awesome weapons and the finest military in history. Everyone loses.

In another eighteen months we will celebrate twenty years in Afghanistan. Twenty years and we are no closer to anything resembling a victory than we were under Bush. Now how do you explain that? Blame the Russians? Why not blame the CIA who ran guns to Jordan who sold them on the black market to ISIS and the Taliban?

That is the sad truth. Somebody is going to arm them. If not the Russians. We will. If we don’t the Chinese will. Somebody is going to arm them. Because you can’t have a war if the enemy is disarmed. We delude ourselves into thinking we can pick one group and pretend they are reasonable. They are not reasonable. They are not moderate. There is no such thing as a moderate jihadist.

Blame Russia. Go to war and launch the missiles. Anything is preferable to admitting we got our asses kicked by a nation stuck in the 7th Century. Because at this point our choices are pretty simple. Admit defeat and walk away. Keep pouring billions into our Defense Industries for the next technological marvel that will finally win the war. Or just turn the keys and nuke the planet.
