US forging an alliance with hardened terrorists, warns Russia

After the White House threatened escalating “actions” if Russia continues its military campaign in Syria, Russia warned the U.S. is prepared to “ally with terror” to overthrow Assad.

In response to the Syrian government’s renewed effort backed by Russian air power to recapture Aleppo, the White House has threatenedunspecified “actions” to punish Russia for not yielding to demands to halt its military campaign.

“While we have not and will not detail all of our tactics, there are a number of actions the U.S. and our partners are considering that would further underscore the consequences of not coming back to the negotiating table,” a White House official told NBC.

For its part, Russia has suggested the U.S. will use the collapse of a recent ceasefire as justification to “forge an alliance with hardened terrorists, dreaming of turning back the course of history” to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

“We are becoming more convinced that in a pursuit of a much desired regime change in Damascus, Washington is ready to ‘make a deal with the devil,’” said the Russian Foreign Ministry...

The main result of Russia’s operation in Syria is that Islamic State and Al-Nusra Front terrorists have been kept out of Damascus, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

Russian airstrikes on radical Islamists in Syria over the past year have ensured that "neither Islamic State, nor Al-Qaeda nor the Nusra Front are now sitting in Damascus," Peskov said in a conference call with reporters.
