Ronnie says Negro! No one cares!

If there really is an afterlife, Jimmy the Greek must be laughing his ass off right about now.

Last word.
Going out on a limb, but what the heck.

I see most of asian descent as looking alike. Similar cheekbones, most have the same hair color, most have the same straight thin hair, most have a similar tone of skin color, most are 6' tall or shorter.

If Harry reid accidentally referred to Jane Kim as Sally Chang, and when he was corrected he responded with the truth that "they all look very similar to me"....would you give the guy a pass?

I mean. Afterall. He simply said what was true.

Probably. I would say it was a stupid thing to say and insensitive but would I call for his resignation over it? No.

By the same token I have no issue with Reagans use of "Negro".

Intent matters a lot. Compare it to, say David Duke or Strom Thurmond - a supporter of segregation to the end.

I thought political correctness addresses that very issue. NOT saying what is true. Being sensitive to other people. Not Generalizing many of a group based on the actions of a few.

PC is BS. It may have started with good intentions, but it doesn't change attitudes, only language and it ignores the intent of the speaker if the right words aren't spoken.

Why is political correctness followed to the letter of the law as it pertains to profiling for terrorists, but cast to the wind as it pertains to what a politician says.

Profiling isn't about PC - it's about rights.

You folks on the left. I fear you are truly blinded by what is happening around you. And you are defending it and allwoing it to become an epidemic with everything that goes on around us.

I suggest you think about it.

I suggest you remove your own rightwing blinders before criticising those of others.

I made it quite clear that I do not feel Reid should resign nor should he be pushed out. I simply said that if he believed Obama deserved an apology, then the American Voters deserved an apology.

As for right wing blinders. I am not right wing. Heck, I am not even a republican. I voted for Obama. Well, for the reasons I thought he was the right pick such as changing the way things are done in Washington.

My call for the election was the candidate that I believed would stop the spending, stop the deal making, stop the partisanship. You know, all the things that Obama promised on the trail. I had not political party affiliation and I still dont. Call me selfish, but I want in a President what i want in a President. The last three elections I was fooled.

I suggest you know who you are talking to before you make an accusation. I am one that was insulted by Reid. If McConnell had said it I would have been equally insulted.

No blinders here. I know who I am and what I want. No one will convince me otherwise.

OMG! A genuine concern troll! This is very exciting.

Time for me to leave this debate.
But in a world where it is OK to be offended by someone who fly's ther flag and offended by the sight of a Christman Tree, I am confused as to why some feel I have no right to be offended by a political leader implying that me and my fellow citizens usew the darkenss of ones skin to make life affecting decisions.

Here's an idea. Why don't you quit being a disingenuous fucktard?

Like it or not, it's pretty well understood that there are a lot of things that contribute to the electability of a candidate including, height, weight, looks, gender, race, etc. To pretend to be offended by somebody commenting on this is decided fucktardery.

Welcome to USMB, *****!

I like the way you put this!

There have been how many that capped on Hillary for, OF ALL THINGS, her ankles! That was so totally petty and stupid...... What only really mattered was whether she could have done the job, period!

I do think that this is pretty funny as in bizarre, though, since so many up here didn't care at all that a certain other woman was totally unqualified, but figured it was OK because they found her "in-their-fantasies-fuckable."

What Nicholson said is what this is all about: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXoNE14U_zM[/ame]

There is a huge and I mean supersize Mastodon in the room that we are not dealing with, and until we get it all out there it is going to be what we have now!

And what is funny to me is I don't really even LIKE Harry Reid, but that is about Nevada Politics, from when I lived there!

But I guess I can only express my being offended in a forum as long as it is the result of anyone but those with a liberal bias. Afterall, those with a liberal bias never do anything wrong. They are all perfect and even when they do something wrong, only those offended by it are in the wrong.

Imus referred to the Rutgers BB team as ho's. He was in the worng, and the girls had a right to be offended. (and I agree)

Letterman refers to Palins daughter (same age as the BB players by the way) as a slut, and Palin was in the wrong for being offended and Letterman was just joking. (and I disagree)

Something for you guys to think about.

Oh bullcrap. I see the same blind hypocrisy in conservatives. It's called partisan.

Absolutely 100% correct.
However, I was the first to jump on the Imus thing, the first to jump on the letterman/palin thing, the first to jump on the Reid thing.
I am consistant.
Those that supported Lewtterman for calling Palins daughter a slut are the same ones who jumped all over Imus for calling the BB team ho's.
That is not consistant.
Imus used "nappy headed hoes", and now cons want Reid's head for using "Negro", which Martin Luther King always used up until he was killed.

No one supported him.

Why are you insulting sluts, btw? How terribly, terribly unPC of you.

No one supported Letterman?
Now I know where YOU come from you lying piece of dung.

No one is asking for Reids head for using the word Negro.
Some of us are offended that he believes we will vote based on how dark a balck man;s skin is. In essence, he is saying that we feel a lighter skinned black man is "not as black" as a darker skinned black man. It is an insult to the intelligence of the elecotrate.

I know...intelligence electorate...an oxymoron

But she Coyote doesn't see it in liberals. It's called "being blindly partisan."

Thank you for providing an excellant example of "blind hypocrisy" in yourself :)

Ah, but you see (well, no, you don't actually, you being blindly partisan)

unlike you, I wasn't being hypocritical.

Unlike you, I can, do and have criticized Republicans. You ONLY criticize Republicans.

Bullshit.

If you want to play the gross and ignorant generalization game, I'm up for it because I'm not particularly fond of the Democrats either.

Unlike you, I can, do and have praised Republicans.

You ONLY praise Republicans.

Gee willikers...Mr. Hotshot, you think? Wow. I just recently criticized Obama for constantly blaming the previous administration and praised Bush (but not Cheney) for remaining silent - something a certain other former Democratic President broke with. I have criticized the Democrats for acting with the arrogance of majority and presuming it means a mandate of liberal policy. Must have been my evil conservative alter ego. Better go beat her down again.

Unlike you, I have thrown the flag when anybody nominally on my side of the political spectrum has said something factually incorrect. Like "death panels." I detest that bullshit universal health care (proposed) legislation in most of its possible forms, but there is still no "death panel" in any of it as far as we have seen.

I agree you have. I can only assume you read what you want to read. I have argued often on the Palestinian side of the Mid East debate but I have also pointed out where "my side" has wrongly and ignorantly condemned Israel. I have also argued that Bush was not responsible for 9/11 and there was no way he could have done anything to prevent it - in fact, prior to 9/11 Congress and the public were loath to get involved in any foreign conflicts - neither the political will nor the intelligence were there in an actionable form.

So go stuff it in your jockeystrap.

The truth is - some people will. Skin color matters on a very subliminal level. Look at the the countries most successful black people - particularly politicians. How many of them have really obvious African traits - skin color, lips, nose, etc? Interestingly, tests have been done where people pick among pictures of people and answer questiions like - who makes you feel secure, threatened, safe, who looks trustworthy? And guess what the results were? That isn't racism - racism implies an intent and as an accusation it gets thrown around at the drop of a hat at every little slur - but it isn't without intent.

People react positively to images that are culturally familiar and negatively to images that are not or that represent a culture they see negatively (like gangsta). That's a reality and denying it by calling it racism or pretending it doesn't exist is dishonest.

No one supported him.

Nope, no one did.

You will always find idiots who support that kind of stuff, just like people thought the Chelsea-Clinton dog jokes were funny. But the mainstream is offended and let Letterman know.

Fair enough.

I just happen to think it is yet another example of politicizing a molehill - something both parties have proven themselves to be quite adept at. The increasing polarization and downright malice of the political process is disheartening and makes me very cynical.

It's a fact that lighter skinned African Americans are viewed differently, even by other African Americans. The same kinds of prejudices appear in all groups.

SO did Rush Limbaugh regarding Donovan McNabb....he siad what many believed to be true...an accurate observation if you will. What did that get him?

Sorry....but if the senate majority leader has the right to say things that he believes to be an accurate observation, then so do those that empoloy him....the American People.

Anyone who watched the last two Eagles games would have to conclude that Rush was right about Donovan being overrated too. He sucks ass when there's something on the line.

And rush was blasted years later on this board for making an accurate ibservation by the same people who are giving Reid a pass for makling an accurate observation.

Really? Maybe you should tell us Mods who you were before taking the userid you have now....you just joined in August, less than 6 months ago...?:eusa_whistle:

I have read near every thread on the board since I have been here, mind telling us or better yet showing us WHERE people on this board criticized rush for this.... hmmmm

How about the Democratic leadership criticizing rush, link up to that at well, IF you CAN.

You do realize, of course, that Reid apologized to Obama. He told the truth, perhaps, but he felt the Presdient warranted an apology. He also felt that Sharpton deserved an apology.
But none of them believed that the American Voter deserved an apology.
So we can minimize this all we want, but for some strange reason an apology was necessaary to those that the comment was not directed to, but those that it weas directed to, did not desrve one. And to the contrary, we are expressing faux outrage.

15th post
That about sums up your post alright.

Reagan also said this:
There is no law saying the Negro has to live in Harlem or Watts.

your OP is dishonest

he wasn't just saying negro, he was referring to the UNCF and their colleges...but you, as usual, dishonestly tried to make it like he was just saying negro when in fact he specifically talking about UNCF and their colleges

now, after your OP is shown to be bunk, you come up with another one

what is the context and when did he say that ravi?

Yep, the world is back to normal. It's okay for Republicans to use the term negro but it is a sin for Democrats to do so.

I knew Ronnie would set things right.

:clap2:

why have you become so dishonest lately? you can't give context and when the second quote was given....and you can't be honest and admit he said negro because he was referring to the united NEGRO college fund...

quite different than reid....but don't worry, i am not surprised at your lack of honesty ravi.

So I guess that whole thing about Rush buying a foorball franchise about a month ago was a dream.
And there was not a single thread on here regarding it.
And not one liberl expressed disdain at the idea of him buying the team for reasons I described.
Sorry. Guess it was a dream.

Reid said: "I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African-Americans for my improper comments," Reid said in a statement released after the excerpts were first reported on the Web site of The Atlantic.

That sounds like an apology directed at the American voter as well.

But here's the other thing. Were Reid's comments made privately or publicly? Outrage over something said privately - something that is also rather true strikes me as faux.

Well, Mr. Mod....

I did a boolean seach of "Rush AND football" and four pages of threads came up. You think there was not a single comment by a lib chastising Rush for his comment?

I guess not, becuase you have read just about every single thread on this board and never saw anyone do it.

So I am curious...now that I took your berating untrue comments and threw them back in your face with facts....will you ban me?
