yeah .. there were actually young fans that broke down in tears when Hulk turned heel .. Hogan was like a larger than life super hero .. especially for the kids ..
As a high schooler at the time I naturally considered myself a total badass and liked the heels better anyway

Probably would’ve been different if I was a little kid

He was a racist. I have no use for racists.

yeah.. i was referring to the younger kids .. may fave was the 4 four horsemen ..

"All is well, even now"
I hope to remember those words when my time comes.

The biggest moment in pro-wrestling history:

You gotta understand that Andre allowing himself to be slammed and then defeated was an iconic moment in pro-wrestling history.

I am gonna nuance this a bit. I think that Hogan, like many pro-wrestlers of his time, had strong racial biases, but I think it's them being a product of their environment. I'm not excusing it, but it was probably the environment he grew up in. Most of the Black wrestlers he worked with said they didn't think he was racist, though some admitted they found his comments disturbing, which is understandable.

Unkotare stop being a *****, with your fake news emoji, and actually comment once in a while.

Because it’s so incredibly rare for a 77 year old man to have had heart surgery, the only possible explanation is steroid use from decades ago?

In any event, not the appropriate thread to be speculating about stuff known only to Hogan and his doctors.
He had three heart surgeries. How many fit people do you know died of heart attack in their 30s or 40s pre covid?

It may be appropriate to mention what a bizarre spectacle that professional wrestling was (and is?). It is completely scripted, which is to say that the conduct of the spectacle and its outcome are determined in advance, and yet EVERYONE - wrestlers, referees, announcers, and fans - goes along with the fiction that it is a real competition. Yet is is supposed to be more than just a competition; it is a FIGHT. The only people who take it seriously are adolescent boys and morons.

But it is entertaining, party because we all know that the Good Guy will win in the end. He might not even win a particular match, but in the end he will win.

People who are more conversant with the sport than I have told me that H. Hogan was not a great wrestler, but was good at the melodrama shit and faking the moves. There is no brighter star in that word, eh?

May his memory be a blessing.

FULL MATCH: Iron Sheik vs. Hulk Hogan | WWE Title Match: WWE at MSG, Jan. 23, 1984

Damn, I remember seeing that match when it happened. Probably saw it on PPV. Brings back a lot of old memories.
  1. I miss them lowering the mike down from above to the announcer.
  2. I miss there being a time limit and number of falls named.
  3. I miss rings with real turnbuckles with exposed hardware.
  4. I miss not having LED wraps covering the ring posts with ads and crap adorned all over them.
(one notable exception: Ivan "Polish Power" Putski)
Putski was one of my favorite wrestlers. Yes, he is still alive and living in Krakow, I believe. I got close to him once walking down to the ring and got off a good Polaroid of him up close.
