While former President Clinton was often quoted when he said he "abhorred" the Military, the Left has embraced it wholeheartedly in the past thirty years. Why? Because it can serve as an incubator for ridiculous "woke" agenda items, such as wimmin in combat, embracing homosexuals, patronizing transgenders, and of course massive doses of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
You might ask Why and How this is. Are Soldiers and Sailors not "Manly Men"? Yes, of course, but there is a weak underbelly to military discipline and it is this: If you tell a military officer that his Officer Efficiency Report will depend on how well he implements Policy X, he will implement Policy X enthusiastically and without question. Even if Policy X goes against logic or that officer's personal beliefs. So all that has to happen to implement preposterous wokeness is for the President and SecDef to tell the Joint Chiefs to implement it...and then you have it.
But enlisted men are not compelled to embrace it, to love it, or even to tolerate it. So the main demographic that has been the backbone of American's military for the past 75 years - "white" working-class Southern men - have largely rejected military service as an option.
But there is one development that could at the very least bring this trend to a screeching halt: the election of a real Republican President. My preference would be Governor DeSantis (for 8 years), but if need be I will vote early and often for Trump. If the nominee - God forbid - is Nikki Haley I will sit it out.
