Right On, Governor Christie!

Of course, such a warning flies in the teeth of the policies of the current food-stamp, class warfare President....

....but, then there's this:

"The lessons of history … show conclusively that continued dependence upon relief induces a spiritual and moral disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fiber. To dole out relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit."

These searing words about Depression-era welfare are from Franklin Roosevelt's 1935 State of the Union Address. FDR feared this self-reliant people might come to depend permanently upon government for the necessities of their daily lives. Like narcotics, such a dependency would destroy the fiber and spirit of the nation.

And my question to Governor Jabba would be whose fault that is?

The Democrats for merely creating the welfare programs, or the Republicans for creating the dependency.

For the last 30 years, the GOP has made war on unions, the Middle Class, good salaries.

And when people turn to government to get the things their parents earned on their own, we all bemoan dependency.

"....the Republicans for creating the dependency."

It is a characteristic of the Left to accuse others of the feasance of which they are guilty.

Case in point, your quote.

Yeah, God damn those lazy senior citizens who worked all their lives and paid into Social security all their lives, those parasites have no right retiring. They need to work until they wear out and die, paying forever into their retirement fund without ever collecting from it. You know that's what Christie will do, you won't ever see him or anyone in his family taking a check from the government!!!!

Did Gov. Chrispie really say some Americans are "couch potatoes"?

Wow, right on. The guy is twice the man any of his opponents are. I heard he loves campaigning with relish. He wants to devour his competition. He is the guy with "big" ideas. But I've heard he has a massive ego, "large" doesn't do it justice. He's a meat and potatoes kind of Republican. I heard he's a man who likes to chew over his ideas. I want to know more about his policies. We seen the appetizer but now it's time for the main course.
Don't forget Bush called him an "ENORMOUS personality."

His fat ass will die of a heart attack long before he reaches the age to collect social security.

2. ...brought up national policy toward the end. He said it is the least optimistic period he’s ever seen for the nation.

"It’s because government’s now telling them, stop dreaming, stop striving, we’ll take care of you. We’re turning into a paternalistic entitlement society. That will not just bankrupt us financially, it will bankrupt us morally," Christie told Bush, Henry Kissinger and an assortment of Republican governors in a theater at the New York Historical Society.

3. "When the American people no longer believe that this is a place where only their willingness to work hard and to act with honor and integrity and ingenuity determines their success in life, then we’ll have a bunch of people sitting on a couch waiting for their next government check," Christie said."

Translation: What Conservatives Really Want

Conservatives really want to change the basis of American life, to make America run according to the conservative moral worldview in all areas of life.

In the 2008 campaign, candidate Obama accurately described the basis of American democracy: Empathy -- citizens caring for each other, both social and personal responsibility -- acting on that care, and an ethic of excellence. From these, our freedoms and our way of life follow, as does the role of government: to protect and empower everyone equally. Protection includes safety, health, the environment, pensions and empowerment starts with education and infrastructure. No one can be free without these, and without a commitment to care and act on that care by one's fellow citizens.

The conservative worldview rejects all of that.

Conservatives believe in individual responsibility alone, not social responsibility. They don't think government should help its citizens. That is, they don't think citizens should help each other. The part of government they want to cut is not the military (we have 174 bases around the world), not government subsidies to corporations, not the aspect of government that fits their worldview. They want to cut the part that helps people. Why? Because that violates individual responsibility.

But where does that view of individual responsibility alone come from?

The way to understand the conservative moral system is to consider a strict father family. The father is The Decider, the ultimate moral authority in the family. His authority must not be challenged. His job is to protect the family, to support the family (by winning competitions in the marketplace), and to teach his kids right from wrong by disciplining them physically when they do wrong. The use of force is necessary and required. Only then will children develop the internal discipline to become moral beings. And only with such discipline will they be able to prosper. And what of people who are not prosperous? They don't have discipline, and without discipline they cannot be moral, so they deserve their poverty. The good people are hence the prosperous people. Helping others takes away their discipline, and hence makes them both unable to prosper on their own and function morally.

The irony of that coming from a guy is currently living off government checks, and who has clearly put in more than his share of ass time on a couch, or the equivalent, well,

it is truly precious.

Why should one strive when one's pay isn't based on productivity anymore?

productivity-wages.jpg

Working families have BUSTED THEIR ASSES to be more productive and what do they have to show for it?

Wages where working families get their incomes, have remained stagnant.
While median incomes have gone up...that's the rich getting their fatter slice of pie than the rest of us.
The line showing increasing productivity over the years isn't from the people working any harder.

Productivity has increased because of technical innovation and advanced automation in the work place.

Which enables fewer workers to turn out more product in a shorter time.

Well it might be obscure reference of the day but every time I see Christie I can't help but think of Pappy O'Daniel's son Junior in 'Oh Brother Where Art Thou'.

But the workers are not increasing their share of the increasing value of what they're producing.

So who's getting the difference?

Not so sure. I heard the doctors checked his heart, but couldn't find anything.

Case in point, your quote.

First, I'm not on the left.

Second, even though I kind of suspect you might have eaten paint chips as a child, I will try to break this down for you.

Ideal world- Everyone works and makes their own way. This is the convervative ideal, or it least it used to be. That means, you need to have jobs for people to do. When I was growing up, maybe what Governor Jabba said was true, we did have a class of folks who were only out there waiting for the check.

The problem is, somewhere along the line, the big corporations, the folks who really run your party, decided that full employment was a bad thing. Full employment meant they had to offer benefits, treat people decently. Much better to keep a lot of people unemployed so you could abuse the ones who were.

So they pushed for Free Trade and made people compete with folks living in mudhuts for jobs. The pushed to put an end to unions and for "at will" employment and "right to work" states to keep everyone in just a bit of competiton with each other. and not surprisingly, wages for working folks have been driven down to the point where you could have a job and still need Food Stamps, Section 8 and MedicAid to provide the things you used to be able to provide for yourself by having a job.

The problem is, these idiots didn't consider the long term political implications. When the government does more for you than the folks you bust your ass for 40 hours a week with little appreciation, you are just going to totally vote for more of that stuff. Hense, why the Republicans really haven't won a clean presidential election since 1988.

Is that an overstatement! People with jobs have no such recourse. On the other side of the coin, people on the government check are sitting behind computers and big screen tv's waiting for their next check. Waiting to vote Democrat so their checks don't bounce and the government printing presses keep printing the money we don't have.

A guy who's never even imagined what a treadmill or a responsible diet looked like, talking about lazy people.

Buddy, if you can't even maintain your own vessel - you know - the basic fucking function of being alive, feel free to sit the fuck down about other peoples' "laziness."

1. "First, I'm not on the left."

If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck....

2. "Ideal world- Everyone works and makes their own way. This is the convervative ideal, or it least it used to be. That means, you need to have jobs for people to do."

A fabrication....not germane to conservative philosophy.
You, Obama and Biden do not believe in voluntary charity.
Another hallmark of the Left.

3. "... the big corporations, the folks who really run your party,..."
You've just inadvertently proven my case, Leftie.

4. "...treat people decently. Much better to keep a lot of people unemployed so you could abuse the ones who were."
The 'Big Bad Corporations' gambit?
Leftist propaganda.
Again.

5. " The pushed to put an end to unions..."
If I were a Liberal, like you, I'd scream 'liar'...
But, I'll be civil and not refer to lies or paint chips...and simply prove you wrong:

Results of a recent Rasmussen poll found that 9% of nonunion workers were interested in joining a union. For public school grads, that means that 91% have no such interest. In fact, maybe that means that 9% are public school grads who didn’t learn to read on their own. (Just 9% of Non-Union Workers Want to Join Union - Rasmussen Reports™)
Rasmussen found that even workers in companies who were in danger of losing their jobs, it was still only 9%. What do the 91% know about union membership that the 9% don’t? One can only conjecture.

Not only are you a Leftist Liberal...but you are a fraud.

I think you need to get out into the real world.

Let's start with this one..

More Food Stamps Recipients Now Have Jobs - National - The Atlantic Wire

"About forty percent of food stamp recipients are ... in households in which at least one member of the family earns wages. ... In 1989, a higher percentage were on benefits than working, but as of 2009 a higher percentage had earned income." More are using the program as a work-support supplement and it's only expected to increase.

Or this..

Do Section 8 Recipients Work? « The Tulsa Initiative Blog

88% of Section 8 recipiants either work (33.4%) or are elderly or disabled. (49%) Only about 12% are your typical welfare type.

Ah, and now on to MediCaid.

USATODAY.com - Medicaid insures historic number

The expansion has cemented government's role as the nation's primary health insurer. About 100 million people — 1 in 3 — now have government coverage through Medicaid, Medicare, the military and federal employee health plans. More than 10 million others are eligible for Medicaid but have not signed up.

You see, this is the problem you guys avoid. In the rush to gut the middle class so a few rich douchebags could have more polo ponies, you've made government their friend. And much like Don Corleone, "Some day, and that day may never come, I might ask you a favor."

Not only are you a Leftist Liberal...but you are a fraud.

Wow, you are an absolute marvel to me, PC. You are able to pick out select phrases while completely avoiding even TRYING to understand the argument. Seriously, this must be some kind of high level autism we've never heard of.

When you get to actually addressing the point I made, get back to me.
