Social Security and Medicare have been very successful programs. Your problem with them is that they were 1) Democratic solutions to a problem and 2) Successful government.

To a younger employed person though, they are paying 15% into the fund. There is corruption in it and the expansion of giving out to more and more people and expanding its responsibilities does not help it. The disability social security insurance is massively corrupted. And they know it. At some point the aged will have some form of reckoning if the dynamics of our economy keeps changing. The baby boomers are hurting the program as they retire and stop paying in and with the economy not growing as expected the going into deficit date creeps earlier and earlier.
