House passes Big, Beautiful Bill

Engineers make a lot more money.
And they deserve a lot more. They are more intelligent, spent at least four years in a demanding college program, and have knowledge and ability very people have.

A better comparison is between waiters getting by on perhaps $50,000 or so, and senior citizens who have paid income taxes for decades and ALSO getting by on $50,000 or so. Why do waiters get tax-free tips but seniors have to pay taxes on Social Security?

If nobody spies for waiter jobs everyone wins. Nobody can lose.

They don't now, waiters that is. I am a senior that does not pay taxes on social security and it hits me there must be millions more.

Of course there are millions who don’t pay taxes on SS. But there are also millions who do.

A senior with $30,000 in SS and another $20,000 in other income (withdrawals from IRA, for example) has an income of $50,000 - and SS is largely taxable. He is well over the $25,000 limit for all SS to be tax free. (Formula is half SS + other income.)

How is that different than a waiter who earns $20,000 a year in base pay (around here they’re getting $12 or so an hour), and another $30,000 in tips?

In both cases, they are “making do” on $50,000 a year - not easy in a major city - and the waiter gets the majority of his income tax-free, and the senior has to pay taxes on the majority of his? Same total income.

Nope. The 1BBB eliminates tax on SS, tips, and OT

No it doesn’t. The tax on SS remains. They didn’t even adjust the taxable amount to inflation. If half your SS plus other income is more than $25,000 (practically poverty), you start owing taxes on SS. For a couple, it’s $32,000.

Same amount as 30 years ago, when one could squeak by on $25,000. Now it’s a joke.

Correct. My bad. Its just for retirees living in poverty.

It’s sad, isn’t it? Waiters with a total income of $50,000 - big new tax break. Seniors who have paid taxes for 40 years and also with a total income of $50,000 - no change.

Exceptional reply. Thank you so much.

My wife and I (yes I'm a man) have paid 85% on our SS for many years because I simply refuse to retire completely but this may be my last year. I just don't like doing this any longer. I will still pay taxes on SS but not at the highest rate.

We are discussing the actual vote. Democrats all approved causing taxes to go sky high by voting no on the actual bill.
Yeah, so? They voted to not cut Medicare, Medicaid, and food assistance to fund the tax cuts.

Democrats are the father of inflation. Democrats don't tax those using Medicare, they, meaning me, get it for free. My drug prices fell like a rock thanks to Trump.

Yep. So if any citizens have it cut then what? Tough, right?
Oh, the R bill passed the house, with the cuts in there for Medicaid and Food assistance etc

The only hope left is if the Senate changes it via their vote. Then it goes back to the House, for the house to vote on agreeing to the Senate changes....meanwhile the clock is ticking, putting pressure for the house to vote to agree with the Senate changes...

Same place, same short timing, same game!

Haha of course it did! It cut taxes rates on income!

Clearly don’t don’t work or file taxes
Hilarious

Have you made your daily maga contribution to a billionaire today.

You don't pay for Part B? Are you on state Medicaid too?

Every Democrat voted AGAINST keeping the tax cuts and maintaining a secure Southern border, but the Republicans have succeeded.

Now on to the Senate. Hope the RINOs don’t derail it.

Have to admit...Trump's naming schemes are....cringe.

This isn't "sudden" at all. It's not Democrats who said "Debt doesn't matter!" That was Dick Cheney. It's not Democrats who keep cutting taxes and increasing the deficit.

Democrats tax BEFORE they spend. Republicans cut taxes and go on a spending spree.
Taxing before spending doesn't really help when the tax revenue doesn't exceed the amount spent. Totally worthless.

Here's an idea: stop taxing, stop spending. Cut debt, silence the whiners. Spare the rod, ruin the child.

But what would I expect from someone who isn't even involved in our political process?
