And no one is asking why we were even involved when over and over we see where our involvement only causes more problems than it solves.
According to Wikipedia:
Including Crimea,
Ukraine has an area of 603,628 km2 (233,062 sq mi),
[9] making it both the largest country entirely within
Europe and the
46th largest country in the world.In 1991, Ukraine gained its independence from the Soviet Union in the aftermath of
its dissolution at the end of the
Cold War and most of the Crimean peninsula was reorganized as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, under Ukraine. It (
Ukraine) is bordered by
Russia to the north-east;
Belarus to the north;
Poland,
Slovakia and
Hungary to the west; and
Romania,
Moldova, and the
Black Sea to the south. In 2013, after the government of President
Viktor Yanukovych had decided to suspend the
Ukraine-European Union Association Agreement and seek closer economic ties with Russia, a several-months-long wave of demonstrations and protests known as the
Euromaidan began, which later escalated into the
2014 Ukrainian revolution that led to the overthrow of Yanukovych and the establishment of a new government.
Ukraine–NATO relations are close and the country has declared interest in eventual membership. In February 2014, following the
2014 Ukrainian revolution Corrupt, overthrown Yanukovych fled Ukraine and went back to Russia. Russia moved a motorized rifle regiment into Crime with the help of (paid ?) pro-Russian separatists, took control of the entire Crimean peninsula called for elections with troops still in the streets and low and behold they voted to be annexed. To this day the fighting in Ukrane has continued as Russia continues to attempt to regain control over Ukraine. Between 10,000 and 13,000 Ukrainian troops and civilians have died trying to resist the Russian advance on their country. Any country standing up facing down the Russian bear at the door deserves our support, especially since all the countries to the West of Ukraine are NATO members and members of the European Union. We do not want to see Russia in a position to threaten Europe for economic and historical reasons. We and NATO won the cold war and the Soviet Union fell. Russia should not be allowed to stand it back up during our generation. That is our official foreign policy approved by both houses of congress and The President of The United States, such as he is. ps.
