Republicans offer fraudulent tax reform, the alleged FairTax

I like the idea of consumption taxes but they should be included on things like services and stock transfers to keep there from being as big of a void left behind by no income taxes. They should also be phased in over time.

Yes they are regressive yada yada yada but when half of America pays no taxes pretty much anything different is regressive

Rubbish 'half of America' is not paying taxes??? What planet are you from??? The bottom half pays almost all taxes; it's their labor that pays for the taxes for the top half.

Of course, it is. But the alleged FairTax is not reforming federal taxation as its promoters advertise.
Thanks for your opinion. Reforming is reforming. Who says it has to be reformed to make life easier for the poor, who don't pay any federal income taxes anyway? If you want Social Security when you retire then you need to pay in to the system. So, if you want to collect government benefits, then you should also be paying into the system. That's what's fair.

You can't polish a turd.....Abolish the income tax and 16th Amendment.

You confuse fact with opinion.

It is a fact that the alleged fair tax does not end federal taxes calculated from profits, gains and other incomes.

It is a fact that the alleged fairtax would create two new tax collecting agencies, an “Excise Tax Bureau” and the “Sales Tax Bureau", in addition to keeping the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms alive which will also be collecting taxes.

It is a fact that the alleged fairtax requires ordinary working people to register with government in order to sell the property each has in their own labor,

It is a fact that the fairtax would create a new entitlement, the Family Consumption Allowance [a monthly government check sent to every family in the U.S.] that would become another wedge issue used during election time to buy votes.

It is a fact that the so-called fairtax requires taxpayers to file fairtax returns twelve frickin time a year.

Why on earth would any “conservative” politician support this rope-a-dope proposal which enlarges and strengthens the federal government’s iron grip around the American people’s necks?

If Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., and Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., are really determined to offer meaningful federal tax reform, they would introduce the FAIR SHARE BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT which begins as follows:

“SECTION 1. The Sixteenth Amendment is hereby repealed, and Congress is henceforth forbidden to lay any tax or burden calculated from sales, profits, gains, interest, salaries, wages, tips, inheritances or any other lawfully realized money.

NOTE: these words would return us to our founding father’s original tax plan as they intended it to operate! They would also end the experiment with allowing Congress to lay and collect taxes calculated from lawfully earned “incomes” which now oppresses America‘s economic engine and robs the bread which working people have earned when selling the property each has in their own labor, not to mention they would end federal taxation being used as a political weapon to harass and attack political opponents!

JWK

When Federal Reserve Notes were made a legal tender in violation of our Constitution, and a direct un-apportioned tax was imposed upon the people without their consent, America’s free enterprise, free market system was subjugated, and the tools of oppression were made available to some very immoral and nefariously evil people

And their labor is their property which the rope-a-dope fairtax wants to tax, force those who sell the property each has in their own labor register with government to exercise that inalienable right, fill out fairtax returns twelve frickin times a year, and be a tax collector for our existing gangster federal government.

"The property which every man has in his own labor, as it is the original foundation of all other property, so it is the most sacred and inviolable. The patrimony of the poor man lies in the strength and dexterity of his own hands; and to hinder him from employing this strength and dexterity in what manner he thinks proper, without injury to his neighbor, is a plain violation of this most sacred property." ___ Butchers’ Union Co. v. Crescent City Co., 111 U.S. 746 (1884)

It is a fact that a fair tax would collect tax revenue, the same as the income tax does.

We need a change to the way we collect taxes for the federal government. I'm open to suggestions of all kinds as long as everyone above the poverty level pays something and we streamline the IRS process to keep the IRS out of as much as possible. We don't need a complicated tax system. We need an easy tax system that mostly eliminates people cheating. That includes the rich and it also includes the poor. If you make a system whereby cheating is near impossible, then people can't cheat. I'm tired of hearing the rich aren't paying their fair share when they are paying the huge majority of the taxes collected and I'm tired of hearing that about 50 percent of Americans pay zero federal income taxes.

The FairTax is a stupid idea

It's more than a stupid idea. It is cleverly designed to create a new 23% tax an articles of consumption, while keeping alive Congress' power to lay and collect taxes calculated from profits, gains, salaries, wages, tips and other lawfully realized "incomes".

Conservative analyst Steve Forbes tore into Republicans on Thursday over their plan to vote on a radical redesign of the entire federal tax system — one of the key concessions House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) made as part of a deal with roughly 20 far-right lawmakers who spent a week blocking the votes for him to take office.

The plan, known as Fair Tax, has been kicking around the fringes of the GOP and libertarian communities for decades, and has been introduced in Congress several times, albeit without any serious backing. It calls for completely abolishing the federal tax system and replacing it with a 30 percent sales tax on every good and service in the United States.

"Payroll taxes, which finance Social Security and Medicare, would also get axed," explained Forbes. "The IRS would go. States would collect the sales levy and remit proceeds to Washington."

How, particularly in these inflationary times, are voters going to react to paying a 30% sales tax on what they buy? A typical new house would cost an additional $125,000, not to mention the thousands of extra dollars people would pay for food, fuel, electricity and countless other items," wrote Forbes. "Proponents say incomes would go up because Federal levies on earnings would disappear, but since that wouldn’t make most people whole, the Fair Tax would pay a rebate each month to every household to help pay for necessities

A rebate to help pay for necessities?

Bye Republicans.

According to my math, all the Feds need to do is ADD a 3% or 4% Fed sales tax instead of turning the tax world upside-down.

A new sales tax eliminates the fight over where to cut spending.
Here is the rub....once the feds create a "VAT", what's to stop them from raising
it? Every country that created that tax has raised it considerably at will. No thanks,
I'm not wanting to open that door for them....because they will raise it, as sure as I am
that the Sun will rise tomorrow.
