Report on China Naval Modernization and Implications for the U.S. Navy

China has a long way to go to catch up with the US's 10 Aircraft carriers. Unless we get a government that insists on letting the Chinese catch up by cutting the Military they may never catch up.

China having four carriers won't impact the operations o the US Navy. We already have carriers deployed world wide, with a couple of them being based in Japan.

Besides, we've been working with and operating carriers with steam catapults for a long time. China is just now starting with carriers. They built their first one in 2012 and then said it was combat ready in 2016. Took them four years to get it operational, but they are still running with diesel power and ski jump launch platforms.

Our carriers are all nuclear powered and all of them have steam catapults, with a possibility of using electromagnetic catapults in the carriers to come.

Nope, China has a long way to go to catch up with us.

China has been slowly and methodically following a Mahanian policy for two decades now.

How? The Mahanian policy is to win via decisive naval battles and blockades.

With only one carrier and the kinds of ships they have, it would be hard for them to accomplish something like that.

You're looking at it wrong.

Report on China Naval Modernization and Implications for the U.S. Navy - USNI News

The report says, among other things, China may commission as many as four aircraft carriers. How will this affect USN operations?

Actually the report said that China is building 1 or 2 more- and there was speculation that China might eventually field 4-6 carriers.

But the report itself seems to be identifying you- noting that the press focuses on single issues- like the aircraft carriers.

Good report- thanks for sharing it.

I would say of all of China's modernization- their aircraft carriers are the least troublesome. Their weapons targetting our aircraft carrier groups are a bigger concern.

"China may commission as many as four aircraft carriers"? Isn't it strange that China doesn't already have four aircraft carriers today? It's a shame that the USN is run by a bunch of politically connected old tired fat assed Admirals who apparently live in the good old days of gigantic naval battles or are more interested in the battle of taxpayer funding and their own kickbacks. The latter is my guess. Everybody knows that Carrier Fleets are nothing but a bluff in the age of satellite warfare. Gigantic naval battles are obsolete and the big Fleets are dinosaur taxpayer eating ocean going junk.

Supposedly the Ruskies and China have a supersonic missile that is claimed to be a carrier killer..

Only one carrier is based in Japan. Try again WAVE.

Tell that to Syria, Iran, and Afghanistan.
