Scientists warn of 'massive,' irreversible changes with devastating impacts unless world takes immediate action

Disaster alert! Another dire consequence of man-made severe climate change. This one from our ever trusty and fully truthful al Jazeera America @ Report: Climate change may trigger ?abrupt? worldwide consequences | Al Jazeera America

And here comes the alarming – no frightening – opening paragraph:

Human-caused climate change is real, and so is the chance that abrupt and irreversible changes could have a devastating impact on the world in a matter of decades, or even years, a new report by an association of American scientists warned Tuesday.

[Now to sit back and watch all the so-called experts argue back and forth about this. Could this be exactly what this website is all about?]

From the study of the Younger Dryas, we know that climate change can occur very rapidly, several degrees in a decade. In today's world of seven + billion people dependent on agriculture, that would result in a catastrophic die off. Today, we have already added an additional 40% more CO2 to the atmosphere, 250% more CH4, and a great many industrial GHGs that have no natural analog, some thousands of times as effective GHG as CO2. We are seeing the rapid melting of the Arctic ice, and rapid alpine deglaciation. We are already seeing changes in the jet stream circulation. Earlier springs and later falls in the temperate zones.

So, where is all of this going to lead? That is the present debate. How fast the feedbacks. From arctic permafrost and clathrates, to the warming and acidification of the ocean, we don't know what the rate of change will be a decade from now. We are performing an experiment on our only planet, with no going back, and no real knowledge of the outcome. Yet we have people here that think this is a wise course.

CO2 has no impact on driving climate so that it's increased 40% is less than irrelevant. We have the Vostok Ice Cores that show greater increases in CO2 as a percent and it never drove climate.

If there really are "abrupt world-wide consequences" coming at us in the near future, guess what? It's already to late to stop them. We're on a roller coaster headed to the top of a giant plunge down and the only thing we can do is hold on tight to our seat locks and enjoy the ride--and maybe scream.

Good times, boys. Good times.

Well, I hope you are wrong, but think your analysis is probably pretty accurate.

Of course every Scientific Society, every National Academy of Science, and every major University in the world states otherwise, but what the hell do they know?

You're fucked, Buddy.

APS is kicking your lazy, lowbrow no-science "Mann tree Ring" fuckers to the curb

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Abraham3 ----- From the OP....

The AAAS warned of “massively disruptive consequences to societies and ecosystems,” adding that scientists do not know exactly what degree of warming would lead to such changes. Even a relatively small change in one element of the climate can lead to abrupt changes in the system as a whole, according to the report.

These changes can occur over periods as short as decades, or even years, the scientists warned. Some of the planetary systems that could trigger those abrupt changes, if pushed beyond their limits, include large-scale ice sheet melting, collapse of the Gulf Stream, destruction of the Amazon rain forest and coral reef die-off.

Scientists can’t predict what temperature will cause that red line to be crossed, the report added. Once the climate has been pushed across that line, “even if we do not add any additional CO2 to the atmosphere, potentially unstoppable processes are set in motion.”

No better example of the unfalsifiable nature of your religion than this piece of work by the AAAS.. THAT'S the Global Warming hype and fear that doesn't stem from the scientific process at all...

BTW --- I don't blame Al Jezeera, but they ARE the world's Big Oil wholly owned news subsidiary.. And it's to their benefit to make sure that their American Cousins in the Oil biz develop a "conciousness" before they do...

Holy Crap Rocks.. Didja get that peer reviewed before you blew it out there? According to the Gospel of Abraham, Mamooth, and UN --- temperatures have NEVER RISEN as fast as they have in our lifetimes.. Get your act together dufuses....

I'm trying to get a lock on a time frame for armageddon here: Our dog's kinda old, maybe in her last year or two. Do I get another dog, or should I settle for sea monkeys?

:dunno:

Gee, sarcasm is such an effective evidentiary tool; let's see what the "experts" think:

WARNING, not for the willfully ignorant, potential infection of cognitive dissonance!!!

Climate Change: Consensus

15th post

The next time a super volcano goes off or a real ice age creeps up on us we may very well be set back in such a way.:doubt:

Yep. But some of us are optimists, and some of us have faith that science can tame that massive cauldron sleeping in restless repose below Yellowstone and most of Idaho.
