The climate change tipping point is like peak oil, or reaching for straws that are always just out of reach. Plastic straws at that!

However it is undeniable that the world has been slowing warming from whatever cause for the last 150 or so years. Which in geological terms is the blink of an eye.

No, it is not.

Both do deal with managing non renewable resources.

Peak oil was a very real worry back when Cheney and his secret energy task force met. Their solution, of course, was starting a war in the Middle East in order to put Iraqi oil reserves in control of American oil companies on their terms.

Global warming is an entirely different thing.

The oil industry has enlisted the right wing and funded an entire Galaxy of “think tanks”, pressure groups, and junk science to advance their rear guard war against progress.

boil it down to basics. Global warming is real and is not going away.

Oil,coal and fossil fuels are finite resources that will run out.

Global warming deniers are wedded to a doomed ideology.

Oil, coal, and gas WILL run out eventually.

Solar and wind already produce energy more cheaply than fossil fuels.

Bill Gates is telling us climate change isn't all it's been built up to be. Is it really that dire an issue? No doubt the climate will always change, yet we have to be good stewards also, but is it the hysterical issue most try to make it out to be?

There’s a doomsday view of climate change that goes like this:

In a few decades, cataclysmic climate change will decimate civilization. The evidence is all around us—just look at all the heat waves and storms caused by rising global temperatures. Nothing matters more than limiting the rise in temperature.

Fortunately for all of us, this view is wrong. Although climate change will have serious consequences—particularly for people in the poorest countries—it will not lead to humanity’s demise. People will be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future. Emissions projections have gone down, and with the right policies and investments, innovation will allow us to drive emissions down much further.

Unfortunately, the doomsday outlook is causing much of the climate community to focus too much on near-term emissions goals, and it’s diverting resources from the most effective things we should be doing to improve life in a warming world.

It is though. Since I first heard about the peak oil theory when Nixon was President, we've never reached peak oil. In fact proven reserves have increased right along with the increase in demand. Just like the tipping point for the looming global warming catastrophe. The thing is the real catastrophes are not predicted by most scientist to occur until next century. I think the ecosystem will collapse and cause more harm than the effect of global warming. I think it will happen long before we run out of oil.

I'm not saying fossil fuels are not finite, there is just more down there to discover. Nor am I saying the globe is not warming or that liberating all the sequestered Carbon like we do isn't contributing to it. I'm saying humans aren't going to change and we need to find ways to mitigate the effects of a warming earth. Maybe they'd change if a catastrophic sea rise event happens because a huge enough chunk of one of the Ice Caps jumps into the oceans......maybe.
