For the purposes of the conversation we're going to allow for the existence of an "Intelligent designer"(ID) with the ability to manage evolution.
Now this ID designed early humans and sent them into the world and as they spread they adopted genetic traits to enhance their survival in the region they called home.
Groups living close intermarried and spread genes to the adjoining pools.
Now, as an ID once you have what is required from a specific genetic group you'd want to eliminate the group to prevent the spreading of now deficient DNA. This is what happened with Cro Magnon and other human branches. WE can see their DNA but the people no longer exist.
Over time humans with the big brains and thumbs built tools like clothing, houses to overcome the environment. Then they built transportation and were no longer limited to the local area. This is all part of the plan. As people travel more they create more "hybrids" sharing DNA from many sources while shedding less useful traits.
Over time, there will evolve a superior human race.
But we've got two problems.
First, pockets of people still carrying undesirable genes and 2nd, overpopulation.

Slow the population growth till we can support ourselves here without killing every other living thing and get rid of undesirable DNA pools by allowing them to die out.
But as an ID, to promote population expansion, we made people sexual animals. We like sex. We enjoy sex. even when there's no chance of procreation.
But, as an ID how do we address peoples' need for sex while maintaining a lid on population growth? Simple solution.
Create more LGBTQ people.
A group of 50 men and women could potentially create 50 babies per year. Take 10 men and 10 women and make them "gay" and your population growth rate has dropped 20%.
Assuming we, as a species, avoid destroying ourselves this process will take well over 500 years.
But it is all part of the plan.
