Several republican govenors are actually eyeing this 787 billion stimulus package & some may either opt out of the funds & or dramatically reduce what they have been offered by the federal government.

The biggest concern of theirs--is that they are aware that this money is only temporary--so they do not want to put it in areas--that would then require additional long term funding--this time from the taxpayers of the state.

Sarah Palin warned the Alaska state legislature of these concerns: This money will run out eventually, so we do not want a project that is 1/2 complete when these temporary funds run out, or a long term committment that the taxpayers of this state would end up paying for.

Very sensible of them.

This way the stimulus bill seems to make sense, the governors themselves bare responsibility for their spending. Credit for who did make this possible to avoid pork.
