Racine man sentenced for killing good Samaritan - WKOW 27: Madison, WI Breaking News, Weather and Sports
RACINE, Wis. (AP) - A Racine man has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for killing a retired teacher who doled out quarters to those in need at laundries in town.

Sixty-eight-year-old Wilbert Thomas was convicted in June in the October 2010 beating and strangulation of 67-year-old Sandra Lee Teichow, of Lake Geneva, and of stealing her quarters.

The Journal Times reports (Life sentence for teacher's murder ) that Thomas attended Thursday's hearing in a padded suicide-prevention suit and sat in a wheelchair. He told the court he'll appeal.

Racine County Circuit Court Judge Tim Boyle rejected Thomas' insanity plea. He ruled last month that while Thomas had a mental condition at the time of the killing, he had the mental capacity to understand that his actions could result in her death.
