America is a liberal democracy, and in a liberal democracy, there are protections for the rights of minorities. In the same spirit the electoral system provides safeguards for the rights of citizens of small states against the being oppressed by larger states. Didn't get to see her meltdown, but I did get to watch Juan Williams on Fox News.

He seemed really angry, and I don't think it was because of multiple things, I think he was just angry over JUAN thing.

Sean Hannity also said to get him away from that ledge, but personally, I think someone should have given him just JUAN push.

He was so upset, I suspect he was one of those people that thought Hillary had the election JUAN before the voting even started.

It is the wisdom of the electoral college. If you saw the county maps last night as the election returns came in, the nation, even in the most blue states, the red vastly outnumbered the blue counties by what looks like maybe hundreds if not a thousand or more to one. Even deep blue California has mostly red counties except for a few large metro areas. Nevada was all red except for Clark County where Las Vegas is. Yet all of California and Nevada's electoral votes went to Clinton.

Without the electoral college, presidential candidates would only campaign in the large metro areas and it would be the people in the largest metro areas in blue states--people who are most approving of authoritarian government and more progressive/leftist/progressive/statist etc. policies who would choose the President every single time. The rest of us would be given no consideration at all and people like Rachel Maddow would hold vastly more power than would be healthy for any of us.

She is reminiscent of a sad faced, petulant, even angry Peter Jennings when the Republicans wrested power in the Senate and House from the Democrats in 1994. There was no 'the people have spoken'. It was 'we have just witnessed a national temper tantrum.' Even some of the MSNBC and CNN commentators last night were more objective than that.
