Not just the rejection of truth, punishment for the truth tellers.

Is it? You think the US can compete with China on labor costs? Think again. BTW, what you are suggesting is wildly inflationary.
Of course we can't compete with slave labor. That's why you tarrif the **** out of China.

Dumbass.

Trump sometimes uses an oblique argument that when tariffs reduce imports from china that tesults in a losd of income for china

Is that too cute by half?

Of course it is even if true

US consumers pay the tariff

A better argument is that if we raise the price of chinese imports those products will eventually be made in the US again

But that will not happen overnight
Most of us will be dead by the time that happens… if it ever does

Paul Krugman released a related video on the subject, making a compelling case that Hassett’s call to discipline economists was “thuggish.” Krugman added, “That’s incredible. That’s like saying, ‘If you carefully study the data and come up with results that we in the Trump administration don’t like, we will punish you personally — or we will try to.”

As unlikely as it is, I am eagerly awaiting the day when a certified trump devotee puts partisanship aside and admits tariffs are not the panacea trump claims them to be and the regime shouldn't be contemplating punishment for those who say so.

But what is more likely is trumpers will avoid this thread.

Paul Krugman?

LOL

Krugman Said Markets Wd 'Never' Recover From Trump. Dow Up 10,000

Most, including Trump, do not.
A year ago trump may have said that because he expected china to drop its prices, which it did

But they also have been transshipping through 3rd countries to avoid the tariffs

Either way the buyer pays import duties

So now it’s not enough to disparage , there must be punishment
<~~~~~~~~~~>
There's an old quip that states: "Turn about is fair play."..
It justifies paying back a real or perceived injury or action in kind.

We can compete with tariffs that allow American workers to compete on a level playing field

Which on the surface is inflationary

But it also keeps the money circulating in America, which has a multiplier affect on our economy and a net minus for china

Most of us will be dead by the time that happens… if it ever does
Most of us might if thinking like yours takes over the white house

White House eyes punishments for economists who told the truth about tariffs, consumers

Donald Trump’s top economist didn’t just disagree with consensus economic research, he also suggested he wants to see researchers “disciplined.”

Throughout his second term, Donald Trump has heard economists tell him that American consumers will end up shouldering the increased costs associated with his trade tariffs. The president has consistently rejected those analyses, despite everything we know about Economics 101.

Unfortunately for the White House, almost a year after Trump advanced his tariffs agenda, experts have scrutinized the evidence and concluded that their predictions were correct. From the Congressional Budget Office to international scholars to the National Bureau of Economic Research, all of the available data points in the same direction: American consumers, not foreign companies, are paying more as a result of the Republican president’s policy.

Last week, still more evidence emerged. Research published by economists at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Columbia University found that, through last fall, 90% of the economic burden from Trump’s tariffs fell on Americans, not foreigners.

The findings didn’t generate a ton of headlines or national discussion, which was understandable. After all, the economists and researchers had simply found evidence that proved what we already knew. That said, the reports made reality clear, in case there were any lingering doubts.

The trouble is, Team Trump doesn’t want economists and researchers to make reality clear.

Economists of all stripes have been naughty boys and girls. For nothing upsets the regime like advertising the facts when they run counter to its narrative. Most especially on Don's signature economic policy. The one he keeps pointing to as raking in a ton of cash.

He, and folks like the dutifully loyal Kevin Hassett, would rather we consumers not know where that cash is coming from. Our wallets. Tariffs equate to a tax on consumption. But don't try to tell Don that. He'll look at you as though you told him he lost the 2020 election. Or climate change is real. Or this isn't the greatest economy known to man. Or vaccines, not disinfectant, are the best way to combat a pandemic.
Brian Cole is White.

The "vax" stops the infection and spread of COVID.

Putin and Trump colluded to steal 2016.

Benghazi was about a video.

Yes, rejection of truth and punishment for truth tellers?

My bet is they have been struggling to find a way to rule that Trump can't willy nilly enact tariff's without making him pay them back.

So I was pretty close. Ive not seen where they have addressed rolling things back.

Evidence suggests that Chinese manufacturers did not significantly lower their prices to offset U.S. tariffs, as studies show nearly all of the tariff costs were paid by U.S. importers and consumers rather than foreign suppliers.

China was forced to transship its products to 3rd countries to avoid US tariffs

Which is why trump seeks more cooperation from those countries or higher prices on them too

It takes time to change trade policy but reducing imports from china is good for America

I mentioned back when this started that were a few things companies could do to mitigate their higher costs of doing business without increasing prices. They've done a great job so far, but we're not out of the woods. And two of the strategies are layoffs and hiring freezes, and we've certainly seen that.

Yesterday's 1.4% GDP growth print is evidence the tariffs are having the opposite effect on the economy Dotard claimed they would.

What does the 4.3 percent in the third qtr say?

A person that isn’t partisan and have some common sense might recognize the Schumer shutdown had more to do with the fourth qtr then the tariffs
