Demonstrations were held Saturday demanding that the referendum for statehood be honored. Seems like an action the Republicans could back to prove they want to expand the party in Latino communities. Of course, that would introduce the conundrum of having to admit that Spanish is an American language.

Good. Time they paid their fair share.

Funny, could you translate the sign in the photo provided in the article. Politics in Pr are very complicated, many think they are an independent country, failing to realize they haven't been independent since Columbus landed there more than 500 years ago and conquered the Boriken Indians for Spain. Politics there are very complicated and was very interesting to watch while I lived there. A guy actually killed his wife with a machete because she of the way she voted.

It's generally been the 3 factions. One thing that would effect positive change in Puerto-Rico would be a change in the Maritime Law that places undue burden on it, The Virgin Islands, and Guam. They currently get screwed big time.

It's time to cut them loose and let them form their own country.

No more money from the U.S.

They should be states.

Simple as that.

They're citizens. You can't take it away from them. They can renounce it if they wish, but it's their choice not ours.

Agreed. Still, it's their choice. There are added burdens with Statehood. It is a mixed bag. Easing Maritime Trade Regulations will do a lot to ease expenses there. That is an immediate fix.

Could be a big economic boost for flag makers. Everybody'll need a 51-star flag.

Personally I think if they are going to do another state in the area it should include PR and the US VI's. But that's just my opinion.
