"The American Psychiatric Association called out members of its profession for offering their professional opinions about public figures—namely those they haven’t personally examined.
The rebuke comes after questions about President Trump’s mental fitness have surfaced in recent days.
"We at the APA call for an end to psychiatrists providing professional opinions in the media about public figures whom they have not examined, whether it be on cable news appearances, books, or in social media," the group wrote.
"Arm-chair psychiatry or the use of psychiatry as a political tool is the misuse of psychiatry and is unacceptable and unethical."
If you think this will stop ... or even slow down ... the idiots who are declaring Trump has mental issues based on BUTT-HURT HATE-DRIVEN POLITICAL PARTISANSHIP you are wasting your time. Seditious Snowflakes will not be deterred, even by facts and professionals.
Psychiatric Association Hammers Members Over Diagnosing Public Figures
Let's nip this bullshit right in the bud, that being the title. Plus the ensuing smokescreen post here:
They don't give a shit if they violate their training. They want to be loved by the left.
The should lose their credentials if they violate SOP and accepted best practices.
No different than if a MEDICAL DOCTOR DIAGNOSED CANCER OVER THE PHONE.
They should lose thier license to practice. PERIOD.
Opinions and
analyses are not "diagnoses". A
diagnosis is assembled out of a personal examination.
Got that? Or did you think you were gonna get away with this?
NO ONE has "diagnosed" Rump as far as we know. If anyone has he's making sure no one knows about it.
Moreover --- here are the DSM-5 creitera FOR such a diagnosis, FROM the same source the OP just cited, the American Psychiatric Association itself:
>> The essential features of a personality disorder are impairments in personality (self and interpersonal) functioning and the presence of pathological personality traits. To diagnose narcissistic personality
disorder, the following criteria must be met:
A. Significant impairments in personality functioning manifest by:
1. Impairments in self functioning (a or b):
a. Identity: : Excessive reference to others for self-definition and self-esteem regulation; exaggerated self-appraisal may be inflated or deflated, or vacillate between extremes;emotional regulation mirrors fluctuations in self-esteem.
b.Self-direction: Goal-setting is based on gaining approval from others; personal standards are unreasonably high in order to see oneself as exceptional, or too low based on a sense of entitlement; often unaware of own motivations.AND
2.Impairments in interpersonal functioning (a or b):
a.Empathy: Impaired ability to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others; excessively attuned to reactions of others, but only if perceived as relevant to self;over- or underestimate of own effect on others.
b.Intimacy: Relationships largely superficial and exist to serve self-esteem regulation; mutuality constrained by little genuine interest in others‟ experiences and predominance of a need for personal gain
B. Pathological personality traits in the following domain:
1.
Antagonism characterized by:
a.Grandiosity:: Feelings of entitlement, either overt or covert: self-centeredness; firmly holding to the belief that one is better than others; condescending toward others.
b. Attention seeking : Excessive attempts to attract and be the focus of the attention of others; admiration seeking.
C. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual‟s personality trait expression are relatively stable across time and consistent across situations.
D. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual‟s personality trait expression are not better understood as normative for the individual‟s developmental stage or socio-cultural environment
.
E. The impairments in personality functioning and the individual‟s personality trait expression are not solely due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, medication) or a general medical condition (e.g., severe head trauma). <<
pp. 9-10, right column,
here. (emphasis added)
"DSM-5" means that any five of the characteristics should be present to conclude a diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
Examples:
(A) 1a -- "more electoral votes than anyone since Reagan"
2a -- "throw 'em the hell out, just beat the crap out of him"
2b --- "if she wasn't my daughter I'd be dating her"
(B) 1a --- "I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created"; "Little Marco"; "I like people who weren't captured OK"; mocking the congenital disorder of a reporter who refused to lie for him; etc etc etc etc etc
(B) 1b --- freaking everything he does and says. "We'll see what the ratings are" is a candid confession of where his values are.
You have to be wilfully and intentionally blind to stick your head far enough into the sand to pretend this emperor is wearing clothes.
That's a whole 'nother psychiatric evaluation --- self-delusion.
