Protect your wealth from Labour

Well, it doesn't matter, anyway. If the Germans still had the same work ethic as you described in the post 11, it wouldn't make difference where you serve your car, in a private car shop or in a certified one.
I have found here in the UK at least where i live some small independent garages are terrible rip off merchants for the unsuspecting who are not clued up on cars, but there are also some very good ones, i use a local guy and his team who are old school, i have been with them now for years, if they tell me a job will cost £200 then that is what it will cost, always shows me any old parts etc, in the Thatcher years many idiots bought into the nonsense that she supported business the business she supported was Corporate jackals global multinationals not the small guy, i know because at the time i was self employed in retail she doubled VAT overnight which put some small people out of business.

Small businesses struggle to survive, big businesses do the same. It is only scale that differs. There are plenty of stories about big firms that try to cheat their customers or government.

Europe is no longer an industrial and financial powerhouse of the world. It has plenty of competitors, it lacks recourses (that is more and more expensive over the time). Basically, it is the main reason why their 'social states' will fail.
Yes of course. Not out of desperation, though.

This way of things seem to be universal throughout the world. There are really good guys in 'garages' and car services. But there are plenty of stories about just pulling money without the job being properly done. What you need is find 'your' guys. In the place where I live it is usually done by advise of friends, relatives, coworkers etc.

Interesting…

I have very clear memories of my British associates telling me that it was the highest honour to pay as much as possible to the Government for “the good of the country”. Has that mentality changed?

Nah, they just don't ran their mouth about that anymore.

My employer is the US segment of a major British company. It always boggles my mind when I see UK messaging about how great it is to pay MORE for electricity.

And how they rationalize that? More electricity used - means more equipment works - means there is nothing that stands idle?

Mostly under the… you pay more and we can do more to make sure you still have power through maintenance and upgrades.

May be. They are sellers, you are a buyer. The sellers are always interested in selling goods as much as possible.

I’m a customer but I’m also an employee. I get to see internal documents where the company portrays it as good for the customers to pay more and get less for our bottom line and “energy efficiency “.

I got an email as a customer yesterday asking me to sign up to let THEM control my thermostats. In return they’ll give me a $50 credit now and $30 every year hereafter. Well, I don’t have Bluetooth thermostats and if I did I don’t want the Electric Company controlling them.

Nearly, the Left Wing wants that, but not at their expense/cost, so you were close. They want to run out of everybody's elses money first.

I don't know anyone who wants to pay more for electricity, they pay more these days because the industry was handed over to private companies, we now have the ridiculous situation where my energy supplier is part owned by the French Government, you couldn't make it up.

You would be shocked at the stupidity of some people. I know I am quite regularly.

In any significant sized area, the privatization of utilities has had far more benefits than problems. It may work in some small towns and suburbs but in any significant sized area it would be a disaster.

Not sure where you live but that’s a pretty odd setup.

I live in the North West of England, privatization has been a disaster, not just energy but all our utilities, we have rivers and the sea full of shit trains that many people can't afford to travel on, it's cheaper to fly from Manchester airport to Glasgow in Scotland than to go by train.

So if I understand the geography correctly you don’t have National Grid for your electric distribution service. Thats who I work for, in the USA.
