I saw somewhere a story about them turning an old downhill ski jump into a giant slip n slide but I forget where it was.

very true. could spread it out over the whole summer and have a "host nation" with events in all continents.

i was thinking more of France/Germany, South Korea/Japan (even though they hate each other) combos, but your idea is intriguing as well.
 
I wonder what old World's Fair sites are like? We don't have World's Fairs anymore, do we? Wonder why?
