I adore Tom Homan. There is no more genuinely real person who is absolutely himself no matter what the situation. And he definitely has a way of cutting through the crap and getting to the point.

I read Homan's book Defend the Border published I think in the first Trump term after Homan had been with the CBP in the Clinton, GWB, Obama, and Trump 45 eras and his book is well written/easy to read and a real eye opener.

US President Donald Trump spoke in the White House press briefing room on Thursday (Friday morning AEDT), located about five kilometres away from the fatal crash site.
"As one nation, we grieve for every precious soul that has been taken from us so suddenly," Trump said.
"Sadly, there are no survivors" of the crash, he said.
Trump said it was still not clear what led to the crash. He said the US military and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
"We'll find out how this disaster occurred and will ensure that nothing like this ever happens again," he said.

Staffing at the air traffic control tower at Ronald Reagan National Airport was “not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic,” according to an internal preliminary Federal Aviation Administration safety report about the collision that was reviewed by The New York Times.

The controller who was handling helicopters in the airport’s vicinity Wednesday night was also instructing planes that were landing and departing from its runways. Those jobs typically are assigned to two controllers, rather than one.

This increases the workload for the air traffic controller and can complicate the job. One reason is that the controllers can use different radio frequencies to communicate with pilots flying planes and pilots flying helicopters. While the controller is communicating with pilots of the helicopter and the jet, the two sets of pilots may not be able to hear each other.

Phil Washington had airport experience but was clearly not qualified for the FAA. He withdrew his nomination when that became clearly obvious in the confirmation hearing. It must have been galling for Biden to then nominate Michael Whitaker, a straight, white guy, but Whitaker did have FAA experience.

For sure. During the Obama Administration everything was GWB's fault. Now GWB is considered the best thing since sliced bread and everything is Trump's fault.

Only a tiny tiny group ever think it's the Democrats' fault and even the large majority of those think it was that what they did that was unpopular, not that the Democrats were wrong. Bill Moyer is one of the rare exceptions to that.
