Well I hate to be the one to tell you, but Socialism, which you have been told to fear all your life, is responsible for all this...
1. The Military/Defense - The United States military is the largest and most funded socialist program in the world. It operates thanks to our taxpayer dollars and protects the country as a whole. From the richest citizens to the homeless who sleep under the bridge. We are all protected by our military whether we pay taxes or not. This is complete socialism.
What the hell is wrong with a little socialism? We live with it. It's all around us. It has made our lives better.
That's all infrastructure. In regards to business, jobs and the economy America is a capitalist country. Nice try though.
Infrastructure is all socialism is every supposed to be.
Not only is that roads, fire fighting, defense, schools, welfare, pensions, etc., but utilities like water, electricity, internet, gas, oil, etc., but also we should be using government capital to invest in production like steel, solar, wind, nuclear energy, etc.
We already have half socialized agriculture, with subsidies and price guarantees, so it is not much of a jump to increase socialization of resources that are getting scarce, like fossil fuels.
The problem is people think socialism means centralization, which is less responsive.
That is not true.
The fact Russia centralized does not mean socialism has to be centralized.
What you should think of as socialism is more where employees buy the company and it become employee owned.
Socialism is best done locally as much as possible.
Consider things that are currently being done badly, like Microsoft Windows, cars, energy, etc.
We would be much better off with more collective investment in production.
