I myself am very vocal about the fact that the words "racist" and "racism" have no meaning anymore.
I shared an article on here months ago about what the author called the "Purity Spiral". It's a phenomenon that happens in a culture like we're experiencing now where a moral idea takes hold (such as anti-racism) and, because there are no defined upper or lower limits or criteria or parameters, it spirals out of control until anything and everything can be deemed racist.
As the crusade gets more and more intense and more and more everyday words and behaviors are added to the list, people start demanding justice and retribution in the harshest of terms for the most innocuous things, including death (think Charlie Kirk).
Not surprisingly, the thread only got a handful of views and not one response.
And it can be a huge problem. If you can label someone a Nazi, and or a fascist, and those labels become accepted, then the next steps can lead to violence directed at those who are accused.
There is no doubt in my mind that a lot of self-righteous individuals on the left believe violence and even assassinations are now acceptable.
"the Network Contagion Research Institute, along with Rutgers University, found that 55% of self-identified left-of-center respondents said that it was at least somewhat justified to murder President Trump. Forty-eight percent said the same of Elon Musk, and 40% of respondents, including 59.6% of left-of-center respondents, said it was at least somewhat acceptable to destroy a Tesla dealership in protest."
Polls Show Rising Number of Americans Justify Political Violence
Democrats and liberals are becoming more open to political violence.
In the Marquette poll, taken days after Kirk was killed, 15% of Democrats agreed with the statement that it is "justified for Americans today to resort to violence in order to achieve political goals." That was higher than for independents (12%) and Republicans (6%).
Are Democrats growing more accepting of political violence?
With three assassination attempts on Donald Trump in less than two years, data shows some Democrats growing more comfortable with the use of violence for political ends. But most Americans, regardless of party, are not.
Few support political violence, but some polls show Democrats agreeing more
For Marquette Law School poll, the number shows the percent agreeing with the statement that it is "jusitified for Americans today to resort to violence in order to achieve political goals." The next two questions, from the Reuters/Ipsos, are the percent agreeing with, first, "to achieve my idea of a better society, violent acts are acceptable," and second, agreeing that it is acceptable "for someone in my political party to commit violence to achieve a political goal."
