We haven't explored shit of the galaxy, let alone the depths of our own oceans. We've thrown a few robots around the solar system, but still have very limited knowledge of our own neighborhood. It means that 30-40% of Harvard astrophysics have been watching way too many episodes of Star Wars. The galaxy has been thoroughly explored and there is no threat other than reruns of "Invaders from Mars". The closest star is over 4,000 light years away and even if a space ship could travel at the speed of light the distance can't even be calculated.
The closest star system is a trinary just over 4 light years away. Not 4,000.
Alpha Centauri is the closest star system to our solar system, located about 4.37 light-years away. It is a triple-star system consisting of two sun-like stars, Alpha Centauri A and B, that orbit each other, and a third, smaller star, Proxima Centauri, which orbits the pair. The system is a prime target for the search for exoplanets, with Proxima Centauri known to host at least three planets, including Proxima b, a rocky "super-Earth" in its habitable zone.
