Poll: Well-off say tax the rich - Tim Mak - POLITICO.com

President Barack Obama has a lot of support for his proposal to raise taxes on the wealthy, even among the financially well-off, new polls show.

Two polls show similar levels of support for a millionaire tax among those earning more than $100,000, and among Americans more broadly.

Among those earning at least $100,000, nearly two-thirds — 65 percent — would support income tax increases on households earning $1 million or more annually, says a poll commissioned by American Express.

The concept of raising taxes on millionaires drew similar support in a survey gauging support among all Americans, conducted by CBS. Sixty-four percent of respondents said they would support a tax on millionaires “in order to lower the deficit,” while only 30 percent would oppose it.

Of course. It is one step on the road back to a reasonable disparity between wealthy and middle class Americans.

It is better for the economy if 1000 people each can afford to buy a $2000 kitchen cabinet refacing job than if one person buys a new $100,000 full kitchen remodel.

That just shows that the well off have a better understanding than most about what needs to be done to reduce the deficit. My wife and I make WELL into the six figure range and can be counted among the majority.

Of course they do. Ever notice how it is always someone else who should pay higher taxes?

Have you seen the latest stats on who owns the wealth? Basically the top 1% own about 50%, the top 10% own 90% and the bottom 50% of incomes own about 3%.

Who do you think should pay more of the tax burden?

Wonder how many of those 768 respondents in the AmEx poll make over a million bucks income? Bet most of 'em don't. Makes you wonder how many of these guys have written a check to the gov't lately.

And BTW, anybody who think the dems want to raise taxes to pay off the debt/deficits is very mistaken. These guys want more money so they can spend more money, and that is the ONLY reason.

You know you can influence the answers to survey from the way you frame the question, right? And of course who you ask. Sorry if I'm not overly impressed.

But they do, The Top 10% pay 80% of the Taxes, and you are considering all people acquired money when you call them wealthy. We pay taxes on Annual Income in America, not on the Money we have sitting in the Bank. At least not until we die, then if we have enough sitting in the bank Uncle Same takes 55% of it all.

So what are you people really asking for? The Top annual wage earners already pay a far higher Portion of all Taxes than the poor do, Do you now want to tax all their money they have saved every year as well? 55% of it when they die is not enough?

Basically if you are one of those evil people Obama refers to, you know the ones he calls Millionaires and Billionaires when they actually only make say 800k a year? After Federal, State and Local Taxes are taken out you get to keep about 340 Thousand dollars. So you save and put it all away, and earn Capital Gains on it, which you pay 15% tax on, then you die and leave your Estate to your Kids, but First the Government takes 55% of everything they let you keep when you were alive.

lol

Yeah the rich, they don't pay their fair share.

Oh and you people need to stop bringing up Buffet to support Obama's Plan. Buffet backed off his statements and clarified that he means we should raise taxes on the SUPER rich. Those Making over 50 million dollars a year, Not people making less than that. LOL

Yet Obama and his mindless supporters still call it the buffet rule.

Not among Republicans. They want to squeeze the country dry.

So someone who makes 100,000 a year...or more, say those making 1,000,000 should pay more. Why doesn't that surprise me? It's always some guy saying the other guy should pay more.
Has anyone taken a poll on what the super wealthy think about an increase, and how much of an increase? Please don't give the "Warren Buffett says.....".

"Let the other guy pay" works great, unless you're the other guy. We don't have an income problem, we have a spending problem. Cut the spending stupid.

How is raising taxes on millionaires going to make it possible for anyone to buy kitchen cabinets if they can't afford them now?

In other words, you want to raise taxes on people who make more than you, but you don't want to raise taxes on yourself.

How beautifully liberal!

The only thing it shows is that the media can be counted on to promote envy.

Who do you think should pay the most for milk at the grocery store?
