The ignorance and stupidity of the OP and those who agree with him are considerable.

That the video was taken and is available online absent government action or interference is proof of the fact that the United States is not a 'police state,' if the United States were a 'police state,' the video would be taken down and those responsible detained by the government.

Moreover, the premise of the thread fails as a hasty generalization fallacy, as this incident is not representative of law enforcement everywhere, further proof that the United States is not a 'police state.'

What's troubling is that this is an important issue, undermined and trivialized by a rightwing partisan hack and demagogue.

My concern is much more with reducing government, maintaining our federal constitution as it was intended, foreign policy and economics.

I am, frankly, surprised by the knee-jerk response by the so-called conservatives here. Obviously, the entire picture has not yet developed. That video does not document the entire encounter.

One could say a cop that size should be able to restrain an older woman in a more passive manner. There are many passive restraining holds which could have been applied to subdue that woman. But these are wrestling holds which require considerable practice to be effectively administered and there is no requirement that a police officer be adequately trained in those skills.



So the cop's position will be he did his job according to procedure. The same procedure which enables cops all over America to routinely slam passive subjects face down and grind their faces into the pavement with a knee, and to kick down doors at 3AM on suspicion of minor drug possession or sale, and to toss flash/bang grenades -- which sometimes land in babies' cribs and disfigure them.



What we've seen in this video is just one eyebrow-raising example of officially prescribed and sanctioned police "procedure." There are many, many more.
