Recently in Russia there was a plebescite on the question of a package of amendments to the constitution. They are mostly about strengthening the feds. I guarantee that most Russians not only haven't read them, but don't even know what they're about. They watched the commercials on TV, and from those commercials they could infer that it was about strengthening morality and restricting fags. In fact, there is only one amendment that defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman. But this is empty populism: first of all, nothing prevents them from introducing a separate category of same-sex marriage on top of this, there are no bans there, and secondly Russian social networks are the most "free", there is little censorship and in my opinion there are the most fags in the world.
Of course in the U.S. the citizens are more politically literate, and probably would not vote blind. But practice shows that the level of this literacy is falling in the U.S. as well, otherwise no one would allow the Trumpster fraud in the GOP
