Not a productive exercise , imo , as it almost certainly will just show personal preferences and it is unlikely that most here will have seen all the earlier star's complete works.
Very much like ranking apples versus pears versus grapes etc .
Silly . All were great for very dfferent reasons and in very different circumstances.
The likes of Bogart, Stewart and Grant were often restricted by the control of their film companies to whom they were contracted .
I have my preferences but think Orson Welles is the match of anyone . Also a shout for Charles Laughton .

No one before the 1970's could act. They ALL sucked. The dialog sucked, they OVERacted, and they used silly voices for someone reason.

This is some real bullshit right here. Someone should have gotten their ass kicked for making this...

Look how how unnatural Cary Grant is....

I would rather watch a Giamatti film three nights in a row than 3 top box office hits by the likes of Tom Cruise etc.

He was very good in the miniseries about John Adams
Also loved his boxing manager in Cinderella Man.

His father was former Baseball Commissioner Bart Giamatti

Deniro does not belong in that list. He can act one type of character and he does it the same every time.
I would agree most of his characters is basically the same guy.
But not "every time".
In "Cape Fear" - that is nothing at all like the character of Casino or Goodfellas.
In Raging Bull... different again.
Now Tom Cruise is that guy. Virtually every movie he has ever played in is the same exact character with only one exception (Born on the 4th of July)

Joe Pesci is another one

In spite of his stature, he plays a terrifying bad guy but also does comedy

Very under appreciated actor. Rarely given starring roles, but a scene stealer.
Another one is Stanley Tucci

Stanley Tucci is awesome.
A hard striking movie that is both powerful and hard to watch, but tales that need to be told was "The Lovely Bones". In which Tucci played a sexual predator and serial killer. He was disturbingly good in this movie. So much so, that he himself said he would never play that kind of role again after seeing himself in it.

The worst modern US actor in my opinion is Nicolas Cage.
Faceless expression, constantly exposing his fish eyes and a deplorable performance.
If not for those other actors around e.g. Harvey Keitel, Jean Bean, Malkovich, Ed Harris or Michael Caine (camel toes :auiqs.jpg:) his movies would be a total disaster

Unfortunately, due to his family relationship he gets damn good storybooks - which he then ultimately screws up with his mediocre performance

You forgot DeNiro also played OFI investigator Donald "Shadow" Rimgale in the 1992 Ron Howard movie "Backdraft" with Kurt Russell and William Baldwin.
