"America is a land of great daydreams. Is it because of multiculturalism? Perhaps it's because of capitalism's awesome flowery. Whatever it is, we see incredible superstars and social icons such as Pete Rose, Michael Jordan, Leo DiCaprio, Madonna, Thomas Edison, and Steve Jobs. Americans contribute to all areas of life and America is considered a land of great intrigue. Sure, America has made a ton of mistakes (e.g., Watergate), but it endures as a global 'beacon' of democratic 'bravado' and lyricism.

In this stage entered an ambitious but cool Detroit Pistons captain named Isiah Thomas, an African-American wonder-boy who lifted his team to great glory and made himself a Hall of Fame NBA player. Generations of aspiring African-American youngsters dreaming about reaching the NBA would speak of the soundwaves Thomas sent through the NBA like a ripple of competitive excellence. Some say Thomas was an eccentric, but others claim he was a sort of 'athletics prophet.' African-Americans have to endure much and dream much to reach great heights, and Thomas showed that America creates unusual 'roads to celebrity.'

One night, Isiah Thomas was visiting Toronto (Canada) and he was walking around at around 9 p.m. (by himself). He had his headphones on and was ruminating on the successes of his career after retiring from professional play. Listening to Stevie Wonder songs, Thomas felt the cool breeze of the Toronto night and thought about the 'niceties' of American media and even capitalism. Suddenly, Thomas felt a very cold wind brush across the back of his neck. There was no one walking on the street he was strolling on (though there were a few cars passing by!). Thomas turned around to see what caused the breeze on the back of his neck, but there was no one there.

Thomas walked on and continued to reflect on his career. Then, suddenly (again), he felt a cold breeze on the back of his neck, so once again he turned around and once again no one was there. Isiah turned his Stevie Wonder music off and called out, 'Is someone there?' (he was convinced he was being 'brushed' by a ghost). That's when he heard the voice of a 'spirit' whisper in his ear. The voice told him, 'I'm the ghost of a man who died in a car accident on the way to a sports-game. I wanted to tell you that your career represents American triumph over the demon of insanity!' Then, the voice simply dispersed. Isiah decided he did not hallucinate this odd spiritual experience...

Years later, Isiah remembered 'the voice,' but he continued to wonder if the 'spirit' talked to him to instruct him about the odd truth of American 'luck.' Would Isiah's fans remember the strange daylight he brought to the Pistons and the NBA?"
