The only reason why he was Shah to start with was because his dad, the previous Shah, tried to keep his country out of World War 2, and the Allies decided that they wanted their country as a conduit from the UK to the Soviet Union. The man was the bitch of foreigners from the very beginning.

That he lived in palaces while his people went hungry is why they overthrew his ass.

Actually, yes, if you are profoundly ignorant of Iranian/Persian history, then that statement sounds true.

The reality is, Iran had a vigorous, western educated political elite, which the Shah and his Savak secret police mercilessly persecuted.

The reason why the Clergy came out on top is they were the only institution that the Shah had qualms about going after.
