Pentagon Removes Ira Hayes from its Iwo Jima Page

Yeah that’s what happened…. Prior today you had no idea who Ira Hayes was and the only reason you give a shit now has zero to do with what he did on Iwo
I knew many, many years in high school on the rez.

You never knew until this came up because you do not pay attention to patriot matters.

I’m calling bullshit but it really doesn’t matter. You’re so full of bullshit it’s not surprising it leaks out.
There was a movie about Ira Hayes with Tony Curtis and his struggles afterwards

Poor Ira Hayes—he didn’t die like a hero. He died facedown in a ditch, drunk, in freezing weather. I despise alcoholism; I come from a family of alcoholics, and I’ve seen so much wasted potential because of it. Ira wasn’t a perfect individual, but I would still erect a statue in his honor. As I said, he wasn’t perfect, but nothing changes what he did during the war.

White guys arent being cancelled.
Trump didn’t take the website down. I doubt even the Secretary of Defense took it down—most likely, it was some bureaucrat. That’s just the way bureaucracies work. It’s a shame that the military is a bureaucracy, but that’s the way it is. They shouldn’t be a bureaucracy; they should be totally dedicated to the mission, and nothing else should get in the way.

If we erected a statue to Ira Hayes, would we be promoting alcoholism—one of the most destructive forces in our country? It causes more accidents and destroys more families than anything else, except for hard drugs.

Its consistent with other acts of cancellation carried out be the afministration. Did they discuss it ? Probably not. But it is thoughtless and insensitive. Just like trump.

Joe Rosenthal's spontaneous photo was of the second Flag raising and most of the military photographers had done their duty and were making their way down Mt. Siribchi which wasn't even secured at the time. Some rare US Navy technicion recognized Rosenthal's photo as the gem that it was but Rosenthal never took the time to get the names of the Marines involved in the 2nd Flag raising .

Of course it is.

Consider this, the US military is composed of just under 1,300,000 members in uniform.

The DoD is composed of over 750,000 civilians, primarily Union members. That means that there is more than 1 civilian in the DoD for every 2 members in uniform.

Then add in the roughly 370,000 primary contractors, and you have damned near as many civilians working in and directly for the DoD as you do people in uniform.

I have been saying this for many years now. Want to cut the military budget, start with getting rid of all the damned Civilians that are in there filling roles that members of the military should be doing. Why in the hell are we paying civilians to wash dishes in the chow hall? Just a couple of decades ago that was a duty for Privates, and there are a lot of Privates-Seamen-Airmen that can do that job for no extra charge.

When I first heard what the President wanted to do, I hoped the first department he would cut through with a chainsaw was the DoD.

Do you really think it was a member of the "administration"?

I would bet Dollars to Doughnuts it is some anonymous GS-6 that has been an employee of the DoD for a decade or more.

I view this as more democrat panic porn. First, I have the utmost respect for Ira Hayes and EVERY OTHER MEMBER OF THAT GROUP OF MEN, equally. This action removes any special treatment or recognition given to any of them. One of the first things that was imparted to me as a Marine recruit was that there was only one color in the USMC--green. We are all Americans. These actions that give special recognition to anyone based on ethnicity are racist. If you want to do away with racism--do away with it completely. If you are a true American, you will agree with this.
