While I agree with your first paragraph entirely, dissolving the Union poses a lot of problems.

Besides the legislative barriers, there are the problems of large groups of people in the South and Great Plains (and whatever other outlying areas) who would face persecution, be it political, racial, sexual orientation or whatever. Of course there would be an increased migration towards several states, but you would also create a humanitarian disaster.

There are good republicans, but they're buried under the bad ones - the evil Alt Right and other far right republicans; the evil Robber Barons, stealing from the poor and keeping more for themselves; and the cowards in the party, those who have to do their overlords' bidding or lose their jobs.

The cowards are the ones I personally despise the most. If they grew spines and banded together they'd beat the Deplorables and Robber Barons.

As for dissolving the Union, we aren't quite at that point yet, although I am willing to let the Deplorables secede with either Texas or Georgia.

Well at this point the Republican Party has crossed the line. Ignoring the Constitution that requires a President to choose Supreme Court justices, and the Republicans telling every single person that voted for the current president "we have decided he only gets a 3 year term, not 4. We will be ignoring the Constitution at our whim so that we control things all the time and your vote and your voice will be nullifyed at our whim."

Then you see in North Carolina and other states, where Republicans control the legislature, the people voted a more 'liberal' state Supreme Court in, and the Republicans are simply going to create two more state Supreme Court positions, have the Republican governor fill those by appointment (this means no vote by the people), and thus keep a conservative state Supreme Court in place.

It may not look like it but that is how democracy ends. When one party or faction gains power and uses that very power to keep themselves in power indefinitely regardless of what voters vote for.

And that is where we are. It isn't something that is coming, it is here. The union will have to dissolve or there will be another civil war. One faction is not going to force the rest of the population to bow to their will and nothing happen. Human societies have not ever operated like that and this one will not. The end of the union is at hand one way or the other.
