Pastor Protection Act may arise from gay-marriage ruling

TALLAHASSEE — In the wake of a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage, a proposal by Republican lawmakers called the Pastor Protection Act could fuel a debate during next year's legislative session.
...............

Walker's petition at change.org calls for a bill that will "be clear that religious leaders and houses of worship can't be forced by the government to violate their faith where marriage is concerned. … Religious leaders in the state of Florida must be absolutely secure in the knowledge that religious freedom is beyond the reach of government or coercion by the courts."
.................

But Nadine Smith, executive director of the advocacy group Equality Florida, said religious leaders are already protected by the First Amendment.

What a waste of The Peoples resources.

If only the republicans actually believed their "smaller government" and "less regulations" mantras.

 Talk about your selective politicking.

Bah.......caring when convenient.

Great. Now we know what we will be listening to for way too long.

Most on the right won't let facts and the truth stand in the way political demagoguery.

Maybe a pinky swear?

allow churches to opt out of this and opt into being taxed...simple as that....churches want to be all political then they should be taxed
I fully support gay marriage and glad it is the law of the land. But Churches should never be forced to perform a marriage against their wishes. There are so many other establishments to hold a gay marriage don't force it upon Churches. Same for bakers or other marriage vendors.

Fags need to back off forcing their lifestyle on people and forcing them to do things against their religious beliefs.

They shouldn't be forced. Of course, we shouldn't be forced to do ALOT of things. Not to mention, the federal govt shouldn't be involved in this bullshit anyways.
People called last years ruling a "step towards equality" or what have you. That's a fools party. All they did was get permission to marry. THAT is bullshit!

A solution in search of a problem. Not a single church in Florida was ever been forced to marry any couple against their wishes. Not one.

Bakers and other marriage VENDORS are subject to their state's PA laws. Of course, those laws could be repealed to solve that problem......but who is taking the time and the effort to do so when it's so much easier to cry persecution on social media....and profitable too.

Looks like Florida is ratifying the first amendment

Wait a minute!...Hold on... An LGBT advocate group says religious leaders can turn away gay couples? Why just LEADERS? Does it say in the 1st Amendment "freedom of exercise of religion, but only for certain people"????

Bakers, florists, County Clerks hired before (and after, in Mississippi) Obergefell, photographers...they all have 1st Amendment protection too.

Good for Florida lawmakers..

They might just feel like its coming. Legit feeling, IMO.
IDK man. If our federal govt wasn't so fuckin bloated, this wouldn't even be a damn issue!

Our nation was founded on religious freedom.

No one can force a clergyman to perform a gay wedding ceremony. The Republican lawmakers know this, but they are depending on the retard voters not to know this.

Judging by some of the responses in this topic, they guessed correctly.
